Interesting point - remember when they introduced the Rock & Roll for series 7 and Vincent simply wasn't able to cope with a dance he'd never done before? Will this addition favour some pros over others?

I could understand it on Dancing With The Stars, because all of the celebs had done all of the dances before (give or take) so they had to come up with new ways that they could surprise people. It removes lots of the surprise and the buzz from the show when you know who can do what to what standard already. Hence the challenge of mixing dances together. Here it just reads totally as a gimmick, and a ham-fisted one.

And incidentally, probably yet another point chalked up to Louis/Dani as it's the sort of thing that Vincent/Flavia can do in their sleep and have demonstrated on the show before, when they clearly already have the momentum behind them already.

To be fair, he was hampered by the fact that he and Natalie were the same height.

Given their last few years competing on this show I'd say they're due something that's to their advantage!

Well that depends on the dances. It shouldn't be much of an issue, you choreograph a bit of one dance, then a bit of another, it's not like you have to do moves that could fit into both simultaneously, judging by the Americans, so really the only difficulty is the transitions into one dance from another.

Given the number of Rumba/AS dances the professionals seem to do to accompany the guest singers this should be no trouble for any of them.

I think Vincent coped fine...

Well, I can't quite visualise it, but I'll give it a chance before I decide whether or not it works for me.

Things evolve over time - and Strictly has been going for ten series now, after all.

Not that I was around for the first couple of series. I guess that makes me a low, common dominatrix - or some such thing. The show having been 'dumbed down' to attact the likes of me. Apparently.

The early series, we are told, had none of the nonsense we've seen in recent times.

When the first series started, who would have imagined that one day we would see a celebrity running around the dance floor, holding a cape which flapped apologetically in his wake? Who would have dreamt that a 'not-so-good', but 'entertaining' dancer would make it to the finals, knocking out better dancers along the way?

And yet, by the end of the first series that pattern had already been set.

Hmmm. Maybe it is time to evolve. Rather than having more 'plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose'.

Bring on the fusion!

I'm really looking forward to it! Here's Shawn Johnson's Tango/Paso

In America the fusions were:

Argentine Tango/Samba
Tango/Paso
Tango/Foxtrot
Tango/Cha Cha
Rumba/Samba
Cha Cha/Foxtrot
Quickstep/Samba
Cha Cha/Paso

It's looks a promising concept!”

I am also looking forward to this, as you say it really does look like a promising concept, Strictly fans at home could take to this new idea very easily.

Dance fusion isn't new among world class ballroom professionals dancers. The best doing fusion were Yulia and Max,
Here is two examples of their fusion dances.
Paso/samba
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=uKDp_...%3DuKDp__ac7V4
Jive/quicksteps
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature...&v=It1zwilUSho

I like dance fusion but if the dances can blend together. Best fusion dances are Tango/Paso, jive/quicksteps, rumba/chacha Foxtrot/tango, Samba/paso

The worst combination of fusion are Paso/chacha, tango/chacha, foxtrot/samba.
Another exe is Slavik and Karina Tango/paso/rumba

Love this!

I have been watching since I caught the last few weeks of series 1 and I don't really understand people who say the show is being dumbed down. Things develop over time. The only thing I wished they hadn't changed was getting rid of lilia, Darren and Ian, but that's just a personal choice.

I am looking forward the fusions, it's something different. I am looking forward to see how the pros choreograph the dances.

And according to some people here I must be dumbed down loser for liking the swing a thon last year. I can't be the only person who enjoyed it?

They expect amateurs who haven't yet tackled all the ballroom and latin dances, to now be able to combine two different dances in the space of a few secs . Give us a break .

Lots of things develop for the worst . We don't need flashing lights and lasers blinding and distracting us from trying to see the dancing, we don't need daft costumes, makeup, to enjoy the dancing, we don't need amateurs trying to dance to completely unsuitable music which is more a hindrance then a help etc, etc.

I don't think the show has changed for the worse. There are things that annoy me, such as dodgy camera work so you can't see the dance properly, gimmicks like the bike at wembley but overall the show has remained how it has always been. Chris Parker among others had some daft costumes and routines and earlier dances have also had dodgy music. I like that the pros sometimes take chances on music and choreography sometimes it can turn out pretty bad but it's better than being safe and boring in my eyes.

Indeed, its the key question that wasn't answered. If they are given it, somene will get the worst or the most difficult combo. If they pick it whats to stop them all doing the same thing? Wouldn't everyone redo their best two dances, or their most recent best dances, or teh two most alike?? And the music choice will be even more important as it has to fit two styles..........

Hated the fusion dances in DWTS. Shawn and Derek/Mark got an easy Tango/Paso combination. Others were left with a Foxtrot/Cha Cha etc. The Quickstep/Samba made no sense and was danced by the worst celeb. Horribly unfair.

So instead of dancing two separate dances, they dance one combined dance with two different components? Easier on the celebs, harder on the pros for choreography.

Quite agree.

I don't want to see fusions of dances. I actually would like to see the proper dances done properly from a choreographical point of view - instead of a stupid mishmash

I believe the fusion lark is all we are getting

I think its a way of getting all the couples to do all the dances, fuse 2 into 1.........

thats my thinking anyway

I reckon Lisa will fuse the hokey with the cokey to create her perfect dance!

On Dancing with the stars. the fusion dances were all good and some were excellent. It can work but it will test the choreography skills of the professional dancers.

This should sort out the good from the bad
