I think Gary would have - he's got a beautiful voice.
But Cheryl or Dani no. They can entertain though in that they look good and can dance.

Exactly what my housemates said. How she's in the position to be a judge is far beyond me.
Gary Barlow is the only judge who could make it past the auditions. Nicole very possibly, depending on whether she put a Kitty-esque act on at the audition. But that's it - only one real judge qualified given their own singing ability.
Neither would John Lennon or Bob Dylan - not saying she's anywhere near their league 
but making the X Factor live shows is hardly a sign of major talent.

and yet doesn't Gary just stand there like a right drip. Surely you're not condemning her for not dancing. It works for Cheryl and Dani because they simply have to do something considering their songs and singing is of such low calibre.

In your opinion. This is all so subjective. I think Gary's voice is dismal but really enjoy Tulisa's.
I've just watched her performance. TERRIBLE would be an understatement. Tulisa is so amateurish, even moreso than most of the female finalists we've seen in the last couple of years

disagree.
cheryl and dannii HAD to move around and dance and put on performances (i don't think dannii performed on the show, but in her general career) because, as you say, the general qaulity of their songs and voices were very poor. on that i agree with you. but gary actually has a great voice and is a very good live vocalist. he could and does stand and sing because he can. it works for him. doubly so because of the fact that he can't really dance (and he only ever does that to take the piss out of himself).
perhaps a lot of this is subjective, but tulisa's voice is terrible to me. weak, weedy, no power or clarity, poor diction, she struggles with notes and does that annoying 'raspy' thing. her performances are dire...even when mimed.
i think out of all the judges, based on singing ability, gary, nicole and kelly would have made it through. cheryl may have made it through on looks...she did in popstars the rivals...though i personally would have turned her away.
the others not a hope in hell.
