Haha i know right though Had to laugh someone in S. America said we've been waiting 20 Centuries for a Latin American pop i was like considering Christianity didn't hit that continent til the 1400's i think you got your dates missed up and the new pope has italian roots so Catholic church again not so progressive And as she's Irish i was thinking Pope Bernadette quite catchy

Or just caught up in the excitement Why though i never understand why are the popes so old if they were younger they would be less likely to quit or well meet with their god so soon and offer more stabilty And i in my ignorance just assumed most of you were down south if not nonpracticing

Haha maybe How much do you bet that the guy they pick after this one will be an old guy as well? Well a lot of people here in Ireland were brought up Catholic so she might be. I'd better not ask her or she'll go on about religion in next week's lecture

I mean this guy in comparison to Benedict is young i mean is there something that specifies they must be old And as i assumed and yes do not mention anything though somehow in someway at some time you know she will venture on to the point of Religion it's a given

I was a little happy for the new pope, until it was mentioned he is against same sex marriage and I realised what a fool I was to be happy for someone who is apart of a terribly homophobic community. It infuriates me.

LM i commend your optimism and hope but Catholicism has a way to go to catch up as does the Church as a whole They need to begin ordaining women aswell i men The COE got round to that in the 90's so they are always at least 20 years behind

It just paints a horrible picture that religious people are homophobic and it's the public figures like the pope who paint this picture. I know loads of catholics who are either gay or support gay rights. It makes me sick people take certain things in the bible to heart.

It says "a man shall not thy with another man", or whatever it says. That was a gazillion years ago. Back then, no one knew what Gay was. It didn't exist. It wasn't something that was around until time went on. The world and laws are changing, so why can't people's religions change. I am not saying every single person in the world has to support homosexuality, but people need to stop being so ignorant and adjust to what today's day and age is about.

The bible says we also shouldn't eat shellfish but there you go people pick and choose to fit their own agenda im sure if there is a god he have us united rather divided but alas Religion can be a great evil. And in regards to Homosexuality being a new invention if you study Ancinet History it was rife and goes way back to before Christianity so for me Religion has a fundamentally place a neagative impact in which our lives are dictated. But i do also see Faith having an importance to many and that its only a few narrow minded indaviduals that strive to keep us in the dark ages like The Pope.

I didn't mean it was a new invention, i meant it wasn't something people knew or were aware of it. It never had a name.

The only religion i am passionate about is Buddhism, which is about your mind, body and soul. It's not about whether you should do this or do that, or if you do this you go to hell. I am hoping to convert in the near future.

Really?! Will they ever leave medieval times behind and move into the 21st Century?

I think Steve Jobs was a Buddhist once. I can't remember where I read it though.

Wouldn't surprise me if she did I hope the college fixes it soon. It means everyone going up to the Law department must use the stairs.
