Saul's fast walk always amuses me.

I don't remember Dana attempting suicide - was that actually in season 2?

It occurred off-screen. After the attack.

I love how Saul is being given more screen-time than we've normally seen before. Such a complex figure, but a fascinating man. This could be the season that earns him an Emmy.

Quinn killing that kid is going to haunt him.

I totally do not get what is going on here. Who is tin man?
The man whose Quinn's mission was to kill.

If you are a trained Black Ops person with a history of assassinations I can understand not wanting to intentionally kill a child, but if you did so accidentally would you not just chalk it down to collateral damage and move on. Not stand over the body and get all emotional.

Especially if you are deep in enemy territory.

In order to redeem themselves after the disaster at the end of Season 2 the CIA planned to take out several high profile terrorists all part of the same network.

The targets were all given names from from the Wizard of Oz, the tin man was one of the targets and I think he was some kind of financier.

Great to have Homeland back. A slowburn opener to Season 3 but a solid episode.

Just when i thought it couldn't shock me Saul throws Carrie under the bus! What an ending.

Saul is going to be amazing this season. The one person i don't trust is Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), the right hand man to Saul. I wonder if it's really him leaking all the Carrie stuff to the press. Think he could be a whole lotta trouble for everyone involved. He seems like a shady character.

Are these people anything to do with Abu Nazir?

Good opener. Agree about Saul getting more air time. He's a great character.

I hope the series isn't going to focus too much on Dana or Carrie's bi-polar though.

Tonight's episode was all about Saul.

With Carrie having gone off her meds i think we'll see more of that. Sex on the stairs with a stranger (who looked remarkably like Brody!)? Yip, she's off her meds!

I wasn't aware that bi-polar turned women in to sluts.

I got the impression that was no firm connection, they were wanted terrorists (from the CIAs perspective) and taking them out was really about creating good PR for the agency.

Am I misremembering season 2, or wasn't Peter Quinn a pseudonym? Is he known as Peter Quinn to everyone in the CIA? It'll be interesting if they call him to give evidence to that House Committee.

They were deemed to have been the people responsible for the Langley bombing - so not necessarily Nazir's people, but those happy to strike back on his behalf.

Have to say, I liked this opener. Nice to see the threat - at least initially - come from within the US government. More thoughtful and character-based too, moving us away from the focus on (too much) action we had last season.

Some brief thoughts/review from me here:

Very courageous episode with no Brady in it.

But it had a lot of Saul in it, which is good.

A bit of a slow burner, and I was shocked that Saul threw Carrie under the bus at the end.

But the high point of the episode.

On Carrie's notes on the pad that her lawyer read, one of the things Carrie wrote was

"You killed my son - prepare to die"

That was amazing, given Mandy Patinkin's role in the Princess Bride.

I'm quite familiar with people with the disorder and yes it can lead to promiscuous affairs, one night stands, increase in pleasurable activities etc. during the hypomanic state because of the increase in sex desire /decrease in inhibitions during that phase .
On the other hand does having sex on the stairs make one a slut?

I see Dana hasn't improved her diction since series 2. She's still mumbling and slurring her lines so much I can hardly understand a word she says.

it was but he was ginger.....just sayin'

on the whole it was great to have Homeland back finally, although i'm expecting now for a split (bipolar?) plotline between Saul trying to straighten out the CIA while his personal life unravels/stays unravelled and Carrie spends half the series trying to find Brody with her big 'Where's Wally' map on the wall and then the rest of the series trying to drop the committee geezer and/or Saul and/or Salieri (sorry Anar Dal is it? F Murray Abraham) in the poop to return their favour to her.
Slouching's right of course, a good series of who's-the-hero-and-the-villain-CIA-doublespeak-spookie stuff will be infinitely preferable to all of series 2.

It might outshine Blacklist yet

Homeland series 3 ep 1 has aired in ireland. I love this show although hate body's wife
It always annoyed me how she always called him Brody, surely as his wife she should be calling him Nick?
