Of course, I don't know 100% for sure, but ... No. Absolutely not. The whole point of this season was to get us used to life after Brody. In the final few episodes - and in the finale in particular - it was spelt out as clear as day all the reasons why Brody could never return to the US and live anything approaching a normal life.

I'm pretty sure the writers know that to bring Brody back in any form would be akin to Bobby Ewing in the shower in Dallas. They have stretched our credulity a lot in stringing the Brody story out this long. They won't test our patience any further. They've moved on.

With Brody dead Saul should have been revealed as the mole, now season 4 is looking pretty empty with Carrie in Istanbul and Saul in private security (I don't expect either to last very long though lol).

Hence the reboot that has been set up with the last 20 minutes?

I think from the exchange with Dar Adal in the diner it's pretty clear that, at the very least, the CIA will contract out work to him. Surprise, surprise, I wonder if he'll end up in Istanbul somehow?

Carrie's moving to a major hot-spot. Plus, as Lockhart says, she can manage Javadi more easily from there. I don't see it as empty so much as a blank slate to start with, free from the need to tie her to Brody.

As I've said elsewhere, I'm not sure it will work - in fact, I suspect it won't - but I have to credit the writers for making the brave move and not clinging on to Brody, great though the chemistry between Damian Lewis and Claire Danes has been.

Sobbed throughout once I realised where it was going but genuinely spent the last 15 minutes expecting to see him pop up again!

Those of us who'd accidentally seen the spoiler last week could only hope that it was going to be a dummy hanging.
As said Brody was strangled so could possibly still be alive. I know he was ready to go but even so maybe not meant to be ?

I wasn't happy that he appears to have been killed off but on the hanging, we saw him raised up but not really "dropped". Doesn't there need to be a drop for the neck to be hung/get broken or would the way he was raised and left hanging have blocked his neck arteries or something that would have caused him to die still?

He was strangled rather than dropped.

Either his airway would have been blocked or his circulation stopped.

Either way he would have died if it was for real.

Seems a strange ending when they are doing another series.

I've wondered if the next series was an afterthought, and this series was written as the last.

Kept waiting for the hanging to be revealed as a spoof, but seems Brody actually is a gonner.

If he is dead then its an outrageous double cross by the new head guy and that Dar blokle. God knows why Saul still likes the guy.

The Brody execution looked very true to life: there are lots of videos and photos on the internet of Iranian executions.

It was a good episode, despite some unconvincing aspects of it - Brody emerges from Akbari's office, very sweaty with a hidden gun - and no one thinks anything is odd. There were far too many far-fetched plot lines this series, but it just about pulled through all of them.

I think they should have terminated Homeland at this point, because there is nowhere for it to go now unless they intend to start a brand new story to last over 2 or 3 seasons.


I think you can safely assume Brody is finito.

We've always known that Dar Adal makes pragmatic rather than emotional decisions. The fact is - setting human considerations aside - he was right insofar that a dead Brody underlined Javadi's position, whereas an escaped Brody would have undermined him.

Plus, of course, if Brody had successfully escaped, what were the CIA going to do with him? His face is known worldwide. To US citizens he is the Langley bomber - and he can't be publicly exonerated without compromising Javadi's position as then the Iranians would know it was a CIA mission and not him acting as a lobe wolf. Brody had no plausible future.

For all parties involved - except for Carrie and Brody themselves - his execution served a purpose. Even Saul had to recognise that, although of course his humanity meant it wasn't a decision he would have made himself. The good of the many outweighs the good of the few. Or the one. (And there I go quoting the Wrath of Khan ...)

For sure, Brody is dead. He has been a great character and Damian Lewis is a great actor, but this entire season was about getting us to this very point. Any shenanigans now would just be Bobby Ewing all over again.

To be honest, I'm surprised that so many people seem to be entertaining the possibility of Brody still being alive. I'm not sure how the writers could have made it any clearer, short of chopping his body into tiny little Brody-bits.

Certainly Alex Gansa seems fairly definitive about Brody's demise in this interview.

I thought the point of the last 20 minutes was exactly to start up a brand new story by rebooting the entire show. It's the only chance the show has of surviving in the long term (even though US ratings have held up well). To work, it needs to be a complete reboot and not just the same stuff dressed up with different faces and locations. Homeland 2.0 rather than Homeland 1.1, as it were.

I was less upset by Brody's hanging than I should have been. I think including him in this series was quite laboured & they really had run out of plot for him. Those aspects he was involved with were not logical. But it was all a bit sudden & I would like to have seen more reaction from other characters.
And as for Carrie, I'm amazed she still has a job! Would the new head of the CIA really promote her to a plum role after all she's done - and especailly while heavily pregnant? Hands up all those women who have been called in by their boss just before they go on maternity leave & offered a big promotion. Thought not! With Saul gone, she'd have been out on her ear.
I'd rather have the next series with Saul, Carrie (and the lovely Quinn maybe) running a private, black ops team or something.
Enjoyed it, but it's got silly.

I was expecting the demise of Brody, not through Spoilers, but because I felt his story was at an end however I still cried throughout the hanging scene, all that Brody had gone through to bring him to that moment, but I think he'd had enough and wanted to die. I was disappointed in the 'four months later' bit that Brody's family weren't seen for the last time. It would have been nice for Carrie to go off plan (again) and tell Mrs Brody what Brody had done and that he wasn't the Langley bomber.

And I agree that I would rather have seen Saul, Carrie and Quinn together in a spin off series. They're all crazy and ruthless enough to make an interesting team. As it is it'll all be about Carrie and Javardi next series and I'm not sure I want to 'start again' which is effectively what we'll have to do.

To be fair, maternity leave in the USA is nothing like maternity leave in the UK. And Carrie had just said something along the lines of she wasn't planning to take much. But I do think she is a terrible choice to be the head of a station, not because of her impending motherhood though.

I do think they could have tried harder to make the scenes when she was 8 months pregnant a bit more realistic, though! All they did was give her a big bump, no difference in her walking, getting out of a chair, etc.

I still think Saul is the mole. He, and the guy he just got into power in Iran are working together. This has been his goal since day one. Of course, we'll get the whole "I was doing it for the right reasons, Carrie" BS and stuff, but you watch.

As for Brody, pretty much sure he's dead, BUT it could easily have been faked as the way he died is easy to fake if you know how. At first I thought he was going to become some sort of "deep undercover agent" or something with everyone thinking him dead, but I guess this could go either way. For now? Dead. Later season shock return? Possible.
