It appears so to stop him topping himself.

Yes to stop him trying to kill himself.

I thought that too.

Absolutely. Had he worn a white jubbah and kufi and removed his spectacles he would have blended in well or at least been much more difficult to spot in the town. As it was the way he looked he was a sitting duck for the Taliban. Perhaps there just wasn't enough time to get that organised.

I thought Saul draping a brown blanket round his shoulders was a genius disguise, as was walking down the street with his phone talking loudly in an American accent.

I doubt the Taliban would have spotted him without Kerry's intervention.

In a tiny village like that the taliban would have rounded everyone up and asked for ID. He would have been caught easily.

IMO this was the best episode of Homeland since the one where Brody was in the toilet cubicle trying to get his broken suicide vest to work & Dana phoned him up & intervened & he 'saw the light'.

I know it's tough to commit suicide (and I actually do mean that.....), but Saul really should have pulled that trigger - just think how that would have pissed off the terrorists, losing their bargaining chip like that, he would've been a hero albeit a dead one; now he's going to go through hell as both revenge for him killing one of them & to make sure he doesn't escape again.

Does anyone know what height these drones operate at? Are they higher or lower than commercial aircraft (ie higher or lower than 35 000 feet)?

What is it about Carrie? I'm not a man - perhaps someone male could tell me.

First para: well well well. So you will Comeback next week. Thank god there is no Dana.
Second para: losing Saul would have been catastrophic for the series.
Third para: between 5 and 20 thousand feet. As they are much much smaller than commercial airliners they are difficult to see by naked eyes. Also covered in anti reflective paint so no glistening in the sun.

Yes she did.

He would have killed himself otherwise, so Carrie chose the lesser of two evils.

This is just one man's opinion, Claire Danes is not beautiful, but she is exceptionally sexually attractive.
I can't help myself, my French blood makes me hard wired to see ALL women as attractive, some more so than others.

Can't say I see it. And her manner should have any man running for the hills after only a few minutes trying to talk to her.

That was intense. I was on the edge of my seat at times.

That's me and jenny-sawyer told then?
I think some men are attracted to intelligent women , however they look . Carrie looks a scruff at times . She did wandering round Khan's home anyway .

Carrie's quite unattractive in this series, no redeeming features at all, she wouldn't get the post with her condition but the show wouldn't happen of course if she was ordinary.

I thought the drone's location gave away Saul's position. So, are we to assume that the Pakisani authorites tipped off the Taliban as to where the drone was watching?

I thought Carrie might have lead Saul into the Taliban so she could nuke the site from orbit* (it's the only way to be sure).

* Or at least a missile strike.

Pakistan in reality and in this story have always been the bad guys. When Hilary Clinton says in the starting montage...... ' you cant have snakes in your backyard and expect them to bite only your neighbours' ...(this by the way was a real line and not said by Clinton for this series).....she was accusing Pakistan of duplicity and betrayal.

Pakistan has been a hotbed of terrorism for the past 20 years. In fact the road to almost all of the terrorist atrocities in the Uk leads to Pakistan.

wouldn't it have been better for him if he'd just hidden somewhere ?, I mean anything would've been better than wandering the streets talking on his phone .

He could have tried chancing his luck simply hiding in the grocer's shop until nightfall and then made his escape in the dark. Always better to do a runner when it's dark.

Staying where he was in the mountains and letting special forces come to him would have been infinitely better than Saul walking 20 miles into the middle of a Taliban controlled town. But then again he wouldn't have been recaptured if he'd done that and the storyline would be over.

I picked up on that as well and came here to check and make sure I hadn't misheard

I guess the producers could do a quick edit to a scene like that fairly easily thus making it far more relevant to real life happenings at the moment.

Best episode yet of this new series, which seems to have had a new lease of life now Brody is gone for good, hallucinations not withstanding, and it looks like that Pakistani security official is going to be the next notch on Carrie's bedpost!

One thing though, Saul made it 20 miles to the town after escaping, without detection, so wouldn't it have been better for him to just hide out in the middle of nowhere and been extracted by chopper?

He was still in pakistan. US choppers dont fly there. To get Bin Laden they had to jam Pakistani military radar.

Btw the word 'yet' is significant.

I assumed it was because that the needed him to get to a place where they knew exactly where he was as locating by phone signal would not be that accurate especially in open country.

"Lesser of the two evils" is debatable...
