Teaser for Season 5 of Homeland. This show can't come back quick enough as far as i'm concerned. Season 4 was a return to form for me and the best season since S1.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtF2gRfgVmc

The 12 episode fifth season of the CIA drama will be set two years after season 4 following Carrie’s ill-fated tenure as CIA station chief in Islamabad, Pakistan. Struggling to reconcile her guilt and disillusionment with years of working on the front lines in the 'war on terror' Carrie finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working for a private security firm.
Production on the new episodes is currently underway in Berlin, making Homeland the first US series to shoot an entire season in Germany.

Perhaps it's better to mention that on the US pace thread then? Although it's not even shown until tonight over there.

Yeah I've just seen it and edited my post, not quickly enough though.

It was disappointing it ended so quietly, but it is what it is.

Looking forward to the new season and we're only one week behind the US.

Start of some decent Sunday night telly that isn't Strictly, X-Factor or Downton.

Judging by some reviews it's set to be a good season.

Will I have to have seen S4 to understand what's going on at the start?

Well I saw 4 (which was great) but I haven't got the slightest idea here what is going on or who anybody is. I'm not understanding any of it

I gathered that the hackers at the beginning hacked some secret CIA information about how they were operating a special ops team in Germany, tracking down jihadists and spying on/ bumping them off? with the support of the German officials, but of course it wasn't official as they were circumventing Germany's privacy laws. Peter Quinn was in Germany, acting as a special ops (we see him blow up a jihadist who was making bombs) but the Germans withdrew any support after the info was leaked, so Saul left Peter Quinn to carry on as a rogue operator without official back up from either the CIA or the Germans.

Carrie is working for a private company providing security. The rich guy that she's working for wants to go and donate money to fund the refugee camps at the border of Syria, but in order to get 6 other rich people to donate, he needs to go there himself, which is risky as the camp is controlled by the Hezbollah. Carrie needs to get an invitation for him to visit so visits an Iman in order to get a message to the right people.

I think that more or less covers it.

I still miss Brody

I wonder why Saul is back working for the CIA again? What is his job exactly? I was surprised that he didn't seem to have any kind of bodyguard. And I wonder whether his previous employer was really squeaky clean (considering his rant at Carrie about the history of her current employer.)

Really strong opener to Season 5 as far as i'm concerned. I'm hooked and in for the rest of the season.

I really fear for Quinn this series. He's basically become a killing machine and i don't think think he'll survive to the end.

You just know when Carrie goes to Lebanon with billionaire During things are going to go tits-up and if Quinn has to go save Carrie there may come a point where he sacrifices himself to save her. This is me just guessing but i hope it doesn't go down that route.

Seems to be no love lost between Saul and Carrie. So Carrie stopped Saul from getting the Director of the CIA job? Ouch! Great scene between them. Carrie may have left the CIA but she's still getting sucked in.

Best scene of the entire episode was Quinn's monologue in the bunker. Just f*cking brilliant! Best character in the show. Loved that line, '2 minutes to prepare yourself for paradise'.

Well I saw 4 (which was great) but I haven't ugot the slightest idea here what is going on or who anybody is. I'm not understanding any of it
So you don't know who Carrie, Saul, Quinn or Dar Adal are? Lol. Or are you talking about the new characters?

You don't understand what's going on? It really wasn't that hard to follow.

I wonder why Saul is back working for the CIA again? What is his job exactly?
Judging by tonight's episode it seems to me at least that he's now overseeing the bureau’s operations in Europe.

Did that piece of paper say that Quinn's next target is at the "Al Fayed Community Centre"? I can't wait to see that!

my only problem is that as soon as it started I realised I couldn't remember how the last series ended .
did they resolve all that business with the Pakistani government ? was F Murray Abraham's character a good or bad guy ( this seemed to go back and forth )?

Last we saw of Dar Adal as I recall was in his own house where he showed Carrie out the back to where Saul was sitting. We are still none the wiser I don't think as to which side he shows allegiance to?

Dar Adal did some sort of deal with Haqqani at the end of season 4, which seemed unlikely to me having just given up Saul in exchange for prisoners. What was to stop Haqqani holding Dar Adal hostage or killing him? I'm not sure what Dar Adal had to deal with. Haqquani had just wiped out a load of CIA agents, and had a list of all the CIA's assets in Pakistan. He'd won.

Carrie should have let Quinn blow them all up IMO, Dar Adal included.

Judging by last night's episode, I think it's time this show was retired.
