Reality Sucks

I'm enjoying this series too, though finding it hard to wait a week between episodes. I binge watched series 1 - 4

I like how they sometimes slip in a reference to very recent events ("we don't want another Paris"). They must edit them in after 'normal' filming has been completed.

I've enjoyed this season being set in Berlin and it's interesting how relevent some aspects of the story are to current issues in Europe. Wonder where season 6 will be set.

Astrid confuses me, when she appeared in a previous series I swear she was a diplomat, now she's a police officer.

The journalist who works for Carrie's boss annoys the hell out of me - with her being more concerned about one guy who may not be a full-blown (excuse the phrase) terrorist but is certainly complicit in a minor way, than however many innocent people would be affected by the sarin gas.

AFAIK, she's always been a spook.

They're all too hard wired to change their mindsets.

In the big bad real world, It's probably raging on behind the scenes as if nothing changed, with everyone (CIA / NSA / Russian Secret Services / MI6 / German Secret Service etc) justifying their jobs and all seeking to protect their 'national interests' in an ever changing / complex web of intelligence.

Thank god James Bond hasn't aged a bit in 54 years

Another great episode last night.

I love the way the writers find a way to piece it all together, like them spotting the tile design and the process of honing down the addresses after that.

Of course, Kerry /Astrid happened to go to the correct building out of the 39 but that's okay.

Yeah. A quick line about it being the nth building they'd checked would've been a good addition.

Really enjoying this series, keeping up the high standards of the last one.

They did. Just before they went in Astrid said after receiving a call that over half the locations had now been checked and nothing found yet.

I know they had multiple search teams, I meant them in particular.

I was still as to how they narrowed down from the 1500 places that had those particular floor tiles - I have no idea what an algorythm is.

Doesn't she work for Germany's version of MI5, or Home Security?

She works for the BND, the German foreign intelligence agency, roughly equivalent to MI6.

Oh OK, she appears to me to act like a copper.

Think it was a straight overlay between a number of telephone numbers they had on file against the locations of the buildings with the tiles.

Was this an actual reference to the recent events, as this must have filmed days after it if it was?

It was definitely about last month, but as Allison was facing away from the camera they probably only needed to re-dub it with new dialogue.

I think they did something similar last year or the year before to reference something else.

Intrigued on how do you manage to tell an agent from a copper?

Would Carrie & Astrid really have gone into a location like that on their own? If the Jihadi's had still been there they would have been easily outgunned

And they knew there would be sarin wherever Quinn was, but they didn't take NBC suits or even gas masks.

I thought it was probably referring to the Charlie Hebdo attack?

Just watched Sunday's episode on catchup. I'm probably looking into it in too much depth, but the lawyer guy Carrie's been living with, he made mention to 'that man' who was gassed - he didn't seem surprised or it wasn't mentioned it was Quinn, considering it was him who'd been called on to get him medical attention.

I spotted that too. They must have filmed that quite recently for them to comment on it. Surely that line had to be about the Paris attacks last month. Has it been confirmed anywhere by official sources?

I love how Homeland this season is so close to current events and situations that are happening in the real world right now and in real life today. The Syrian terrorist storyline right now is very much close to the bone. This has been a really different season of Homeland compared to what happened in season 4 but creatively has been all the better for it.

I also love we have a different enemy in the form of Alison who i love cos she's just so damn sly and clever (eg. the David Estes excuse she used as the other person she told about the Russian but is now conveniently dead!). Liked the scene when she was smoking outside and either sent/received a signal to/from the old lady walking the dog!

Saul's rage at Alison. You go for it sir! I could totally feel his anger. Loved that scene!

Gutted for Quinn. Not sure how he can come back from that. He might be alive but surely he'd be brain dead from the toxins or in a coma of some sort?

I'm sure Quinn will be fine, if he can survive being shot, massive blood loss, and not having the bullets removed I'm sure he can survive Sarin poisoning, considering he was given Atropine to counteract the poisons (not sure if it works if given it before the Sarin though).
