Django Unchained - 7/10

I loved it when I watched it on the Cinema, but this time on DVD it just seemed over long. I could have cut about 15 minutes of the running time and made it a better film. Am I allowed to do that?

Seeking a Friend For the End of the World - 4/10. It had its moments, but the last thirty minutes was so disappointingly predictable that it reduced my grade from 6 (7ish) to 4.

Tangled - 8/10. Watched it under duress (had to watch it with a young niece). I generally don't like animated films, but I found this surprisingly funny and entertaining.

Don't Cry, Mommy - 7/10. Depressing as it's based on a true event (the ending is fictionalised). This to South Korea is what Confessions is to Japan. A social commentary on children's law that seemingly favours youth criminals.

Cidade De Deus (City of God) - Watched this again for my film studies revision and it just truly is an unforgiving epic. One of my favourite foreign language films.

The Bourne Legacy - 7/10. It didn't seem to go anywhere. On the run at the start, all the way through and when it ended. The final car/bike chase was entertaining though.

After Earth: Well, storyline wise, very good. I actually really enjoyed it and the special effects were also good. However, I did learn that Jaden Smith can't act for toffee. It was however really nice to see the genuine bond between Will and Jaden.

Shutter Island. Did something a little different at this viewing. I turned down the colour and boosted the contrast on the telly. It looks amazing in black and white, much more atmospheric.

Walt Disney Cinderella

I know it's a classic but I didn't like it. As expected the animation was very good but there's really not much of a story here for a feature lenght film. I do like some of the other old classic Disney animated films but this is not one of them.

Monkey Business

Inspired, plot-free larks from the Marx Bros, this time as stowaways on an ocean liner. Harpo, as a sort of serial sex pest forever chasing women along the decks, is one of the many highlights. 8/10

Captain America

Sluggish superheroics marred by dance numbers, spoof-like propaganda, and some remarkably poor green screen work. Chris Evans doesn't quite have the charisma needed to pull off the role, but it's a dull script anyway. Fun watching him run from Manchester to Liverpool, but it's standard stuff at best. 6/10

Made in 1973 starring Yul Brynner.

Still brilliant after all these years.

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani - The chemistry between Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone is PERFECT. Deepika's nerdy look in the beginning and her transition is just perfect. Plot predictably weak, but the soundtrack and the cast save the film. 75/100

The only movie ever to give me nightmares. Brynner was fantastic as The Gunslinger.

The Purge: Really enjoyed this! I love films that make you ask yourself "what would I do?" and this certainly did. Great suspense but I did see the plot as slightly unfeasible in some places but managed to get past that and really did enjoy it. 8/10

The Great Gatsby: Again, I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would have. Brilliant directing, good acting and storyline but the best thing for me, was the music. Lana Del Rey's Young and Beautiful completely stole the film for me, absolutely stunning. That said, I do feel it was dragged out more than it should have been. And as much as I like her, I'm not convinced Carey Mulligan was right for the role. Still, an impressive 8/10 from me.

I enjoyed both films, as different as they are, equally as much.
