Apartment 1303 - 0/10

Absolutely fu**ing dreadful. Barton and DeMornay are bad, but Julianne Michelle puts in one of the worst performances I've ever seen.

Apartment 1303 - Hilariously awful. If you read the back of the DVD, it says that a girl celebrating with friends in her new apartment threw herself off the balcony. She was alone in her room. That was the first bad thing about it, and it was all downhill from there. I saw the original film online and it was way better.

Hitchcock. Fell asleep.

The Trouble With The Curve. Loved this, Amy Adams was perfect as Clint's daughter and they worked really well together.

Die Hard 5. Awful. Just....awful.

Valhalla Rising

Grim, violent yet strikingly artful fable from Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive). A silent, feared warrior helps guide Christian Vikings to some distant, promised land. It doesn't quite go to plan. Pretensions abound, but it knows how to keep you watching, and the end lingers in the mind. Mads Mikkelsen is splendid in the lead. 7.5/10

Devil

First and hopefully last of the so-called 'Night Chronicles' from the pen of you-know-who. A trite, contrived supernatural reworking of the old TV-movie stand-by of stock characters trapped together (cable car, or burning building. The event proves cathartic, lessons learned etc. There were dozens of these in the seventies). Woeful rubbish - badly acted and horribly overblown. The Devil may have the best tunes, but sadly the worst scripts. 3/10

World War Z.

Really enjoyable. Nothing particularly groundbreaking as such, but absolutely worth a watch and I'll probably buy the DVD 8/10

A zombie film but a really nice one. No hardcore violence here. No blood & guts. Instead it's a love story about a zombie guy and a human girl. Surprisingly effective too. LINK

Amazingly awful eighties 'sci-fi' clunker that only proved the Cannon Group were capable of making just as terrible bigger-budget films as smaller ones. Horribly reminiscent of some naff Lew Grade production in its cheesy, dated US/Euro feel, everything about this must've seemed off even on release. Terrible acting, sets, direction, the lot (and from Tobe Hooper, FFS).

That said, even though I'm no fan of the 'so bad it's good' mentality, it did provide some unintentional comedy (Colin Firth trying to play it deadly straight, say). However, surely even the most deluded eighties 'sci-fi' nostalgist would have trouble getting anything worthy out of this rotten old tosh. A true milestone in bad cinema. 3/10

Mongol on TV last night. Enjoyed it. Reminded me of Lord of the Rings for some reason ... all that riding about on endless hills and plains I think!

I bought tat the other day. Haven't seen it yet but I was kinda hoping it would be like Sean of the Dead. Got a feeling I'm gonna be disappointed now

Yeah, it's definitely nothing like "Shaun of the Dead" - which was an excellent film. But you never know. You might like "Warm Bodies". I'm a hardcore zombie nut and like my zombie films violent and disturbing. Yet I still liked this film. Give it a shot. You can always give it away as a birthday gift to someone.

Adore Tim burton but this film was quite rubbish. Despite a talented cast, the performances and storytelling were really poor.
2/10

Great gatsby
9/10
Visually stunning and the acting was top notch. Been looking forward to this film since last year and has been well worth the wait.

The Odd Couple - Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon on top form in Neil Simon's classic. Felix (Lemmon) is a complusively tidy, hypochondriac who is thrown out by his wife and goes to live with his friend Oscar (Matthau) a carefree, careless slob.

The Lemmon/Matthau chemistry has never been better and coupled with Simon's brilliant script it's a comedy gem. 9/10
