PONYO on film4 this afternoon. No smut, no gore, no violence, just an all-round good family film.

"The Room"

After watching a review by Nostalgia Critic on YouTube I had to watch the whole thing. Its the worst film ever made but because of that it is really entertaining.
I have not watched the film itself, only YouTube clips of the infamous scenes and lines. That pretty much filled me in on the film though. It really does seem to be so bad that it's good! Tommy Wiseau's style of delivery plays a huge part in that.

However, I read, somewhere online, suggestion that Tommy has a form of autism, which is why he comes across as flat. The person who wrote the article said that we should be praising him for having the guts to create the film. I'd much prefer to think that he's just an awful actor and deluded.

The Amazing Spider-Man - 7/10

Far from amazing. The Lizard didn't really work as a villain, and he looked bloody awful as well.

Die Hard 2 - 6/10 I recently rewatched Die Hard 1 and enjoyed it so thought I would rewatch Die Hard 2. But I just found myself bored. It does build up to a good end though.

However, I don't want to watch it again.

Dredd - 7.5/10. Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. I really enjoyed the look and feel of the film, though the plot was essentially a rip off of The Raid..

I hope they do a sequel which expands the world a little, but it was a great start to what will hopefully be a strong bunch of films for a very deserving subject.

^Can't be a rip-off of The Raid. The Dredd script was completed in 2008 and the Raid script in 2010. Both sides have acknowledged that it was a coincidence that their premises are similar.

Blades of Glory - 6/10. Silly, cringing and fun.

Tomb Raider - 6/10. I forgot how annoyingly distracting Angelina Jolie's lips can be.

Fair enough. Probably just reminded me as I had seen The Raid before seeing Dredd.

McVicar http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081144/
Roger Daltry as notorious armed robber John McVicar along with a host of familar TV faces in a gritty crime drama.

The film was directed by Tom Clegg who worked on The Sweeny on TV and it shows in the style of the movie. In fact you can almost imagine Regan and Carter kicking a door in and yelling "Get yer trousers on McVicar, yer nicked!"

As it stars Daltry and was produced by The Who there are a few musical interludes.
7/10

Dune (1984) on the Horror channel

This is a very subjective interpretation of Frank Herbert's epic novel though it does try to get the key concepts across. It also contains probably the most vile and repulsive screen villain ever in the form of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

7/10

City of Ember (2008) on Channel 4

I can't actually remember this film being released or in the cinema. It's set in the future in the underground city of Ember which is having problems due to the breakdown of its electrical power system and two of the characters set out to travel beyond the confines of the beleaguered city. An engaging tale but not a classic.

6/10

Just seen Hugo on Sky.
I thought from what it looked like would be a family adventure film.
Instead was about the man who made the very first movies but still I enjoyed this and give it a 7 out of 10.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) 4/10 A sequel to the 2008 movie Journey to the Center of the Earth, this sees Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson team up with Luis Guzmán and Vanessa Hudgens to find the Mysterious Island written about by Jules Verne. Once they find and then crash land on the island they meet Michael Caine and discover that the island is sinking quickly back into the sea, so together they set off to find Captain Memo’s Nautilus. The problem with this movie is that it was obviously meant to be viewed in 3D, almost every scene had some sort of 3D element so much so that the movie was almost an excuse to showcase the technology. A good film for kids but instantly forgettable!

Surrogates (2009) 7/10 In a future world where almost everyone lives their lives through robotic surrogates, everyone is beautiful, crime is down and murder a rarity, a conspiracy is uncovered that aims to destroy the surrogate population of the world. The idea is a good one, (reminiscent of the Matrix), but the movie is ultimately nothing special and in the end predictable.

Exactly what i expected, total drivel, really quite annoyed with myself for watching such tosh.

2/10 for a couple of decent stunts.

I was really disappointed with the Bourne Legacy as well. It has no character development in it whatsoever and once the two main characters get together, you know **exactly** what is going to happen.

Dull sums this up pretty much.
