The Colony (LINK)

Cheap looking and dumb post apocalyptic film that stars Laurence Fishburne and Bill Paxton. I liked the film trailer. Fast forward 5 months later and its suddenly on cable TV. So I wached it and now I'm wondering how the hell did they botch this up?

Safety not guaranteed 10/10

Low budget delight, superbly acted by all the cast.

Haywire - Interesting how it was filmed but not very exciting.

Not terrible, but way too long.

The Thing From Another World 1951..9/10

The Thing 1982...9/10

Lost In Space ...6/10 ..nice special effects but despite loving Sci Fi this movie didnt do it for me !

Fire In The Sky ...7/10 ..The 10 minute scene inside the alien spacecraft showing the abduction and alien " operation " has to be one of the scariest scenes in movie history !

^^I'm late with this one too, but finally watched Hawking - a great film, really well acted, possibly a tiny bit romanticised but one of those that will stay with me - 9/10

The Stars Look Down [1940]. Director: Carol Reed

7/10

Michael Redgrave as a university educated former miner campaigning for nationalisation of the mines. There's a less successful subplot concerning his materialistic wife (Margaret Lockwood).

A Few Best Men - 5/10

Had high hopes for this but it's ultimately a let down and only gets 5 because I thought Olivia Newton-John was quite good in it

VANISHING POINT - 7/10
sumptuous and sleek, with the cars making all the racket ..... and the bikes too

INDEPENDENCE DAY - 10/10
still the greatest scifi b-move ever made!
and still makes me giddy almost twenty years

THE DRIVER - 8seveneights/10
terrific thriller that DRIVE was based on, but much better ..... and much more talkier

loads of tyre squealing delights here, and a superb single shot where he's driving away in the red pick up, with the reflection in the back window!
Agree with the Independance Day quote ...really suprised they didnt make a sequel soon after ..i hear they are contemplating 2 sequels shortly.. again though too late as sequels should always be made within 5 years of the first one ..Jeff and Will will be drawing their pensions by then !

The Sentinel

Another jump on the 70s devilry bandwagon, in which a fashion model discovers her New York apartment block hosts the Gates of Hell. Much hysteria ensues. There's a certain crude appeal to the parade of garish visions on display, but it's mostly vulgar, lumpen trash, sorely in need of a more artful touch. Michael Winner directs, if you hadn't already guessed. 5/10

The Invasion

Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman waste their talents on this fourth (and by far the weakest) take on the Bodysnatchers text. In typical Hollywood SF style, a few good ideas early on get thrown on the fire in favour of dumb plotting, endless chases and trite resolutions. A tragic victim of studio interference by all accounts, and boy does it show. 4/10
I Didnt think The Daniel Craig version was that bad ...mind not a patch on the 1978 Donald Sutherland version ..that was a classic !

Flight (2012)

Not the type of film I was expecting from the trailers - more of a straight drama - but the performances make up somewhat for the lack of thrills.

Bit late, bit pedantic, but Drive was actually based on the novel Drive by James Sallis.

A very good book, and very different from the film. Similar to what Kubrick did with the Shining, Refn took aspects of the book and fashioned a film out of them rather than translate it faithfully.

12 Years A Slave - Harrowing, compelling, breath-taking & utterly brilliant.

I almost (I said ALMOST) cried.

10/10.

Curse of Chucky. (2013) I don't know what sequel we're at now, but anyone renting this movie should know all about the doll by now. If there's one ginger hair possessed doll movie you're going to see this year, make it this one!

7/10.

The Captive Heart [1946]. Director: Basil Dearden

7/10

Plenty of stiff upper lips and chirpy cockneys in this POW drama.
