Argo 8/10

A fantastic film, a lot better than I was expecting. I don't know if I agree with it winning Best Picture though...

10 Rillington Place (1971) 8/10 .disturbing film but brilliantly acted by John Hurt and Richard Attenborough !

Parting Shots (1998) .. 9/10 ...Hilliarious feel good black comedy ..loved the line when Joanna Lumley asked Chris Rea why he needed 40 rounds of ammo to commit sucide he replied " in case i miss "

I watched that tonight - it is a bit brainless but the effects were good and as you say quite entertaining.

American History X
Re-watched this with one of me muckers. It’s a tough topic and hard going to watch (it’s not a leave-your-brain-at-the-door type film) but it’s well made and the theme is a very good one and decently developed and put across on the screen. The directing is good, the score is high-quality and the acting is very impressive. I still don’t rate Edward Furlong as an actor, but he was miles better here than as the irritating, whiney teenager he played in 'Terminator 2'. Edward Norton however, gives an eye-popping and ball-busting performance and then some. Bloody Xcellent….. 9/10

October Baby
Got this watching forced upon me, but was actually surprised by the concept as I actually liked the idea. Thought the acting was decent and the directing was pretty good and at times great. It goes downhill very quickly though and becomes incredibly preachy and religious-y which I wasn’t a fan of. I also thought it felt a bit like a made-for-TV type film (could well have been for all I know…) It could have been a great character-driven film without all the preachy nonsense (that’s me opinion obviously) as I found that stuff let the film down and made it hard going to watch. I have never wanted a beer as badly as I did by the end of this…. A good idea/concept turned preachy 4/10.

Safe Haven, 6/10... well it's the latest from Nicholas Sparks, but The Notebook it is not. Not too much chemistry between the leads, a twist at the end that doesn't seem to fit the film, but a nice - if somewhat bland - romance.

Cloud Atlas ~ An incredible film and nothing I can say would really do it justice. If you like thought provoking films and don't mind something a bit different, you really shouldn't miss out on this one.

Frontieres 6/10

Decent french horror but not up there with the trio of modern french horror classics, namely High Tension, Matyrs and Inside

The Impossible 2012

Tsunami..family on Christmas holiday with 3 young sons get caught up in Tsunami..Naomi Watts,Ewan Mcgregor..stunning film well worth a watch..I am not one to sob at movies but found myself truly crying during this film..not a typical disaster movie...more about hope, beautifully shot..very glad I watched this.

Cedar Rapids. I wasn't too fond of this when I saw it for the first time last year but I rewatched it this week and had alot more fun with it. Decent comedy for a rainy day. 7/10

Smashed. 8/10.

Amazing to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead in a character driven movie. She does a brilliant job depicting Alcoholism and a role so different to her previous work. Girl has acting chops and hopefully will go on to get more work on the back of this.

I enjoyed Flight, another movie about being pissed. But this has the edge. As handsome as Denzel is, Mary is mesmerising.

Playing the Field. 3/10.

Woeful rom/dram/com/sports/kids??? affair. I'm not really sure what the movie ended up as. I'm not sure if the writing is plain bad or if the director just did a really bad job at putting it together.

Essentially its about a Father connecting to his kid but they introduce a whole heap of characters that seem to go no where. Like they got a load of talent signed up and then didn't know what to do with them. Dennis Quaid, Catherine Zeta Jones, Judy Greer, Uma Thurman (looking like she's had some plastic surgery). What a waste.

Not without its moments of suspense but seen it all before and done rather better.

The Shrine [2010]. Director: Jon Knautz

4/10

Derivative horror film where the characters act like idiots.

Mama - 5-10

While I did jump in the movie it was 15 rated for a reason rubbish special effects and a story line that had the potential to be good .... but just really fell flat at the end.
