I'm re-watching Martin Scorsese movies. Watched Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, both of which I hadn't seen for well over a decade, both great imo.

Then yesterday I re-watched Goodfellas, which I actually enjoyed more this time around. i used to think that Ray Liotta's performance was a bit weak, but this time around I thought he was very good. Another film I hadn't seen for a long time.

Next up is Casino, and then The King of Comedy. After that I think I'll try some of his films that I've never watched before.

Compliance

OMG - How can some people be so dumb?
I've seen that and I thought surely it was a wind up but if you read up about it there are genuine thickos that have indeed fallen for it.

Ah, I don't do the number thing. I'll just say that it was ok.
Could you please make an exception this once, pretty please, for me.

In Bruges (7/10) - Guilt-stricken after a job gone wrong, hitman Ray and his partner await orders from their ruthless boss in Bruges, the last place in the world Ray wants to be. With Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes

I liked the black humour, I did find it entertaining and I especially loved that the main characters are British and Irish. However, I don't think there is much that will make me remember it in a few months time.

I watched Jane Eyre (2011) this afternoon. God knows how many times this has been adapted now, but this was a decent enough version. I thought Mia Wasikowska made for a terrific Jane Eyre, but Michael Fassbender was a little miscast as Mr Rochester. No problem with the brooding part of the role, but he is just too handsome for some key scenes to quite work (for example when Rochester asks Eyre if she thinks him handsome and she says no! lol!), personally I always felt like Orson Welles pretty much nailed that part.

But anyone, nicely filmed with some interesting editorial choices. It was an enjoyable enough film. 7/10.

I found that version a surprising let-down, which is odd as it was actually a good film. There were scenes that just didn't work. Almost disjointed, I would say? I've already rambled about this film on this forum a while back so I'll shut up now.

Having said that, you should check out Blind and Firelight if you like that sort of films. Both - especially Blind - have interesting imagery, too.

Ah, I don't do the number thing.
I got this from another site but what I go by is:

1 - Hated it
2 - Didn't like it
3 - It was OK
4 - Liked it
5 - Loved it

Double that number for a score out of ten.

The dictator - Funny, offensive, rather good. A little bit better than Bruno and Borat.
Twister - It was alright
21 Grams - Amazing, powerful
From hell - Awful, boring
Detachment - Nice little indie film with a great performance by Adrien Brody

I rate a film on the likelihood of me re-watching it.

Hypothermia (2011)

Sort of 'creature from the frozen lagoon'.

A hysterically lame monster but, nevertheless, strangely compelling.

It was ok. The ending was spectacularly cruel. I can't get my head around it.

Just watched Winters Bone 7/10

I did enjoy it but didn't love it. Kept me interested throughout though.

Limitless. I thought Bradley Cooper was good enough to at least partially compensate for the godawful Hangover. I mostly missed the last couple of minutes when the phone rang, but it didn't seem important enough to make me rewind it. I'll probably keep it on the recorder though.

Splice. This was downright silly and seemed to have stolen almost the entire plot from a BBC series from many years ago called Chimera. It's certainly put me off having sex with anything with a tail.

in bruges. 4/10.

poorly scripted uk gangster flick with the single "plot twist" horribly obvious. setting it in Bruges is a stupid gimmick with no connection to the story.
