We Bought a Zoo....5/10

I thought this was fairly enjoyable until I 'googled' the story...It could have been so much better!

Side Effects - 8/10 (A smart thriller with a strong cast, i even found Jude Law tolerable for once).

Maniac - 8.5/10 (Definitely wont be for everyone, but if you've got a strong stomach and are open to the fairly unique style then it's a very clever take on the slasher film, i can't say it's "original" since it's a remake but even so, it is well made, and with Alexandre Aja as a producer we get some very graphic violence, made all the more uncomfortable thanks to the first person perspective. Elijah Wood was incredibly creepy and yet strangely sympathetic at the same time).

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - 8/10 (Despite the mediocre reviews i actually really enjoyed this, it also features Jim Carrey back to his manic best).

Life of Pi, 3D. 6/10 for Ang Lee as he didn't thank his CGI FX team when he won the Bling. I hated the narration aspect of the story too. Amazed it beat Ben Affleck, seeing as though he got Best Film.
Enjoyed Richard Parker though.

Julia's Eyes

Awful, convoluted, sub-Hitchcock rubbish that for some reason Guillermo Del Toro saw fit to put his name to.

I'd like to see his legion of fanboys defend this woeful wank. 3/10

Africa United - Low budget film about some kids from Rwanda travelling to the World Cup in South Africa . Nice film with some good lines got sad towards the end.

I used to be a real fan of the Tom Sharpe books tears ago, but I think they're something that you eventually grow out of. The lack of background music would be a big plus as far as I'm concerned. I feel sure I must have seen it, but can't remember much about it.

The Bridge - Unsure/10

Not really sure how I feel about this doc. Obviously very sad, but I found it strange how they just filmed people jumping to their deaths. Quite shocking really.

Wolfman - I enjoyed it's classic, gothic style - burning mansion and all. The only thing was Benicio del Toro's hair - it was too dark and looked dyed - couldn't keep my eyes off it!

Our Sunday DVD Presentation was Hear My Song (Ned Beatty, Adrian Dunbar 1991 Film Four), a superb low-budget film about a down-at-heel club that just clings on by booking cheap, crummy acts. Spoiler warning When manager Mickey O' Neill (Dunbar) looks like losing his girl, he decides to impress her by booking the legendary tax-dodger Josef Locke and hopes to save his club into the bargain. What he ends up with is not what he imagined, and the search begins...

We've watched this film a couple of times since it was first shown on TV and it gets better with every viewing. The characters are great and the almost magical atmosphere conjured up in some scenes is incredible. *Spoiler alert again* Locke's triumphant performance is the climax, and I admit to getting very touched by 'Count your Blessings', delivered in that wonderful tenor voice (supplied by Vernon Midgeley).
What a film!

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - 9/10

I never even heard of this till about a week ago, one of the funniest dark comedies out there. Highly recommended, Rob Downey Jr and Val Kilmer had great chemistry.

In the Fog 6/10. I don't mind watching slow films but this film is too much. Almost dozed off watching it tonight after work.
