My Ployer Momo8 IPS and an iPlayer question

First off, the Ployer Momo8 IPS (I specify that because I think there are different models) has arrived without problems (was kept fully informed via a DHL tracking number - I used Chinistore) and I must admit I am very pleastantly surprised.

It only cost me £99, yet it is as zippy and easy to use as an iPad (I briefly had a gen 1 iPad). At the price, I wasn't expecting the earth - and certainly not a tablet to compare with the iPad - but apart from the obvious - IOS connection to iTunes etc and the differences between IOS and Android - there is nothing whatsoever to upset me. And given that all I want it for is to surf the net, read newspapers, use Skype and watch iPlayer, I feel as though I have saved myself more than £200 by not opting for an iPad.

I got the 8in version - Momo8 might be the clue - but I have no reason to believe that the 7in and 10in are any different. There are most certainly inferior Android tabs out there purporting to rival the iPad - Yarvik, Arnova, Storage Solutions, the list could sadly go on for quite some time - but the Ployer Momo8 is most certainly not inferior, and I can strongly recommend it.

If you buy, take care where from - Chinistore are very good it seems, others not quite so - and research the different Momo8 models as I do think there are differences between them, crucial differences, apparently, and the IPS is - I think - a newer model. There are also reports of a weak wifi connection. I haven't found that, but then I have only so far used it on the work's wifi. Incidentally, it is running Androud 4.1.1.

My question about the iPlayer is that the version I use on my smartphone (4.0.3) allows me to watch live TV and listen to live radio apart from the rest. But the version I have downloaded onto the tablet doesn't seem to offer the facility to watch live TV. Am I missing something?

I've worked out something odd. On my smartphone the iPlayer app plays TV and radio. On the tablet the app simply launches the browser which then shows the BBC iPlayer page. I'm trying to work out how to get the app on the tablet working as the app on the browser does. Also, on my laptop I can still watch live TV on the browser version. It's all a but puzzling.

If this app was pre-installed then I suggest uninstalling it and installing the BBC Iplayer and BBC Media Player from the Play store.

It wasn't pre-installed. I used the browser to download the latest Play Store, then downloaded iPlayer which, when I wanted to use it, asked me to download Media Player, which I did. I have checked and both the tablet and my smartphone have the same version 4.3.2 of iPlayer. Yet the app looks different on both. I don't actually care what it looks like as long as I can watch live TV on the tablet and find out how to do it.

Possibly something to do with this, but it talks about Android 3.

I have an older Ployer tablet running 4.0.3 and it launches the app not the browser.

That is helpful, but it still doesn't explain that even when redirected to the browser iPlayer site, all I can access are repeats, but there seems no way to view live TV as I can when I access the browser site on my laptop.

Your browser is requesting the mobile version of the site. If you go into your browser and change the device type setting (user agent in advanced in opera mobile), to Desktop, then you get the full size site.

Well, I am not getting somewhere, but...

I installed Opera, launched iPlayer, changed the settings so that I could get the desktop versions, then was told to install Flash. Went to Adobe, but I am asked to specify which Linux version I am using. Which would it be?

Would it help if I tracked down the last version of Flash to work with Android (and hopefully 4.1.1), then install it from my laptop to the tablet over USB?

I think this is getting deeper than I understand, but in essence Jellybean 4.1.1 and 4.2 don't support Flash, but it can be installed unofficially (i.e. not from Play Store). The Iplayer used Flash. BBC have introduced Media Player to replace Flash. I don't understand why it's working differently on Jellybean from Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3). This page may give you some more info

I guess if you carry on down the line of side installing Flash and use the full website it should/could work. Seems a bit of a faff though.

Best of luck.

To try to keep it simple: both the 4.3.2 version of iPlayer AND the BBC Media Player (intended to replace Flash) are installed on my g300 Ascend Smartphone, running Android 4.0.3 and the tablet, running Android 4.1.1. On the smartphone, everything runs hunky dory. On the tablet launching the Media Player and which then demands that I launch the iPlayer simply takes me to the mobile website. I have downloaded Opera and set it to take me to the desktop website, but the problem there is that Flash isn't installed anymore.

The whole problem would be solved IF launching iPlayer on the tablet DIDN'T take me to the webwsite but simply ran as an independent app (as I thought it was supposed to) with Media Player doing whatever business it is supposed to do. However, it doesn't. I think it must have something to do with running on a newer Android version.

I have the same problem on my vega though my transformer works fine through the BBC website.

I ended up installing flash and its now working fine. Have a google for flash APK, there are plenty posted.

Thanks for that. Could you give just a little more detail e.g. which version Flash you found, how you installed it and which version of Android you were using?

The really odd thing is that using different browsers gives all kind of different results. So far I have the Android-supplied browser, Chrome, Dolphin, Opera and Firefox. Some report that 'my tablet can't use the desktop website', some don't, and of those who do, some will let me watch live BBC, and some won't. I successfully watch Breakfast TV this morningt (for something to watch - I'm afraid all the Kate pregnangt bollocks isn't really my bag), then when I wanted to show my brother, I couldn't remember what I had used etc. All very confusing.
