There are pros and cons for both really. Bear in mind that I just got a Nexus 10 so I'm probably a bit biased, but for me...

The Nexus has an amazing display, comes with the latest version of Android (and will get timely updates in future), which as well as being super slick to use also some cool new features - Google Now, Photosphere, multi user accounts etc. For a tablet the speakers are impressive. The only problem I have with it is the lack of a microSD slot - 3 on Amazon for a USB OTG cable and a little microSD reader will fix that for me, but it's not perfect. It's also a fair bit cheaper than the equivalent Note. Others have had faulty units (a couple of fellow DS'ers have returned theirs for replacement), mine is absolutely fine - but there is a 15-day return period when bought from Google Play,

Just from looking at the specs, the Note has the obvious advantages of microSD and 3G built in. The stylus and associated apps look interesting, plus there are some other Samsung-specific features that look good to me - Smart Stay and Pop up Play especially. I'd mark Touchwiz as a con, although that's a matter of personal preference of course, and Samsung aren't the best at keeping their devices up to date - although better than many, to be fair.

I doubt there's any noticeable difference in performance, these are two pretty high spec tablets - I can say for sure that I've tried some of the more taxing games on the Nexus and they have been flawless, I would expect the Note to be the same story. The rest of the hardware looks very similar, which given they're both built by Samsung is no surprise.

Swings and roundabouts really - it depends what features are more important to you. Both very good tablets and I doubt you'd be disappointed with either.

Don't know about printing.

No to Word at the moment, though it's supposed to be coming next year - there's always Google Docs though, and there are some office apps on Play but I have no idea if they are any good.

The Samsung has Polaris Office preloaded this supports.doc and .docx word documents, .xls and .xlsx spreadsheets, .ppt and .pptx presentations, .txt documents and PDFs.

There are several Microsoft Office compatible apps-some are simply free, others have paid for versions-I mostly use Documents To Go (because I'd already paid for it), but Polaris is fine (I believe some tablets come with a full version of that for free). Kingsoft Office is another decent free one. There are so many, that if you get a tablet, it is definitely worth typing 'office' or 'word processing' into Google Play and having a look at the apps to see which one best suits your needs. All come with compatible word processing, spreadsheet and (powerpont) presentation capability and you can use some to read PDFs (usually the paid for ones).

If you have access to a wireless printer you can print from your android tablet (or phone). Many of the big printer manufacturers-Canon, HP, Epson etc-have their own android printing apps which are usually free. Many of these are just limited to printing pictures. For printing text, I use an app called PrinterShare. It doesn't cost anything to download it and print a test page, but to use after that you need to upgrade to the premium version which is $12.95 (around 8). I don't know if that would be viable for you, but I have yet to find a free/cheaper app that will let me to anything like that.

I've never used a Google Nexus Tablet, but my husband has the Galaxy Note 10.1. He loves it for two reasons. 1) because he can put a memory card in it and 2) The S-Pen (stylus which you can also use for other controls).
