Having said that, I completely agree with you that it is an AWFUL record!!! And of course Will's song was chosen for Gareth and the Westlife audience!!! I would have liked to hear an original song from Steve to see if I'd like him more when he isn't wrecking (in my opinion) classics I love - and that is something I really can't imagine G4 doing as their "act" is original arrangements of covers. So really, they should have come up with something original for Steve to make him stand out. Maybe the lack of an original song suggests that Simon's camp did see G4 as a threat so wanted to stick to recognisable songs rather than chucking something new at us in an attempt to win 33% of his votes for the evening.

No need to apologise to us Steve fans's, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it I just completely disagree with it, that's all So thankfully do millions ( well maybe just a slight exaggeration there, only slight mind ) of people

The winner was always going to be given a cover version because the original material they were given for the winner, apparently, sucked. AAO is the first and last cover Steve will be doing apparently.

They always do covers for the first song mainly due to time constraints and because they are a new artist so people like to be familiar with their first song. It even took Will a while before he was doing original stuff.

I still hope Steve does a couple of covers on his album, as I just love 'Higher and Higher' and would love for him to do that one and maybe 'Stars'

I don't dislike Steve singing AAO, I strongly dislike the song. The only reason that I will buy the single is because of the other 2 songs on it.

Simon did say on the Frank Skinner show that he had some new songs written but that they weren't good enough so they were scrapped. On a radio interview, I got the impression from Steve's that, he's not interested in doing covers, other than this one. He sees it as the end chapter of x-factor, after which, he'll move on to the type of music he likes.

Simon had more faith in Gareth than he did Will. He wanted him to win and yet Gareth too was to release a cover song and infact did. I'm not inclined to think that Simon has little faith in Steve because his first release is a cover and believe that G4 too, had they won, were going to release songs that they'd sung on the show.

Not always then ... but I suppose if the original material is rubbish you can't blame them really - I'd rather hear a good cover (which IMO Steve's single isn't but I know loads of people disagree) than a weak bit of original material anyday.

For the first release it doesn't really matter what is released, people will buy it as it rides off the back of the programme - the test is in the next couple, to see if Steve - and any others who manage to pick up deals - can keep the momentum going.

Anything is Possible was an original and written with Will in mind. Evergreen also was an album track known only to fans of Westlife so wasn;t an obvious cover. Michelle also got original material. It is the second placed artists who get covers. I still stand by my opinion that (I have only heard it live) this is a bad version of a classic song. It will get to NO.1 on the back of the show but it shows a lack of effort to have a cover for the winner's first song

michelle got a cover - and it was shite. steve got a cover, which is in my opinion, a very mature cover and shows his singing ability. yes, michellest sold well, but she hasnt exactly shown her ability to write other songs has she? We know steve can write songs and many people greatly anticipate hearing them.
