That's true. The recording contract is a red herring. There's little money to be made from albums in comparison to the fortune made from advertising and voting revenue. They will of course have a favoured contestant (James most likely, followed by Jahmene) as some will further the show's desired image better than others but basically, once Sunday's show is over they count the money and look ahead to next year. The winner's career is of little interest to them. That's why many people have suggested a cash prize for winner's (and runners-up) rather than recording deals. The reason they are against that is mainly because it looks bad. It makes it look like what it is, a show aimed solely at raking in profit with no pretence to playing any positive role in the music industry.
