Maybe im hearing things then, but i thought the ones he sang on xtra factor were written by him...

It was a collaboration. Yes, John McGough is a a musician himself as well as a producer and writer...But, although John was the brains behind producing these songs, James was the one primarily who wrote the lyrics.
