Chemical Brothers 'Star Guitar' video
Has anyone else sat and watched this video closely?
A casual glance and it looks nothin more than a boring train journey, look again and the sceneray goes in time with the music, complete with repeated scenery for repetitive beats. I guess it must all be done on computer, i thought it was really quite good. |

yup, i saw something on mtv a few weeks back saying how they did it all. I think its very very clever, must have taken them ages. The first few times i saw it i just got bored and i thougth it was a stupid video, now everytime i watch it i see something different.
Things like each person at the train station having a different word, and at the beginning the pipes in the background going in 'pitch' to the music. |

Oh yeah!!
Never thought something was up at the first few viewings, but the first thing I noticed was those bridges over the river. Now I see almost everything, and keep your eyes on the right of the screen to follow the beats. |

If anyone's interested, it's available as a DVD Video single. I'm after a copy but not many places do it online and those that do charge for P&P (unfortunately it's not available at play.com).
It's an excellent video, they've really put some time into it - but I guess most Chemical Brother videos are quite good. My personal favourite is "How does it feel" or whatever it was called, with some girl dancing with loads of mirrors. |

From http://www.director-file.com/gondry/Dxxix.html
"The video describes a journey as seen from a train window, only the disposition of each passing element in the landscape is positioned exactly in sync with the music. "Every sound from the track will be illustrated by an element of the landscape that appears each time that sound is heard. As the song becomes more elaborate, we will create a more and more complex landscape." This published portion of Gondry's treatment describes well the fusion between music and landscape in his second video for the Chemical Brothers. One notices the similarity in concept between this video and Daft Punk's "Around the World," yet the difference in execution. Instead of each element being a dancer, it is a part of the scenery. The video is based on DV footage Gondry shot while on vacation in France. Truly this is one of those videos that you must see several times in order to see all of the video. Upon later viewings this fan noticed smoke stacks in time with keyboard trills, funny railroad track behavior, and sky changes. Images for the truly nitpicky. All of these were worked on for three months in post by Michel's brother Olivier. |

what do you all think of the album, i think it's a masterpiece, there's some really good tracks on there
Love the star guitar video, noticed on first viewing the link between the music and landscape, i can't listen to that song now without the image of a train journey in my mind. |

If you look closely, apart from the fact that much of the effects are obviously overlaid by computer, some scenery looks English, note the British Rail coloured carriage in one scene, and some very english looking cars like an old metro and such like but later in the video it seems to go very much European especially the trains and carriages. (Im not a train spotter honestly!) . I think they're a real mix of computer imagery and real stuff. Play it in slow motion (if bored) and you can cleary see reflections of the people sitting across in the other seats of the train carriage.
Must rate as one of the best videos of late. |

Yup, they artificially added the reflection of people afterwards to give it a more 'human' feel.

Should that be a more `trainy` feel?
