This is why we continually get dull winners. Keep his head down? Not be himself? Not say anything? why?

How is it sour, bitter or defensive to point out someone is totally wildly incorrect with a comparison? It's just natural.

I do wonder what motivates people to want others to be silent puppets? How boring is that
Because he's a contestant on a TV talent show who is reliant on the public vote. Common sense dictates that it's not a good idea to be gobbing off in the run up to the final and possibly alienating the voting public. It would be especially stupid to do so over something as trivial as Stephen Aherne's opinion of his singing. That doesn't make someone boring - just sensible and aware that they're in the public eye now and what they say will be picked up on.

Incidentally, gobbing off tends to be boring, especially when it becomes a regular habit.

LOL i just read his sarcastic tweet regards Matt Cardle, Matt won!!! James hasnt yet!! What exactly does he mean?? I wish he would spit it out!! call a spade a spade, illadvised IMO, as you say, he would be best to say nothing!!
Nice comment.

I enjoyed Matt on the X Factor and his interpretation of the different tracks that he performed. With this series I just pop in and out for humour, but cannot say that James Arthur has entertained me with anything he has sang or performed. I cannot see myself wanting to listen to anything he comes out with in the future, but there again he might be full of surprises.

I personally thought Stephen was just trying to say that James comes off as a genuine artist in his own right who knows what style of music he likes, it wasn't really about the music they make, except for maybe having a guitar.
Doesn't sound too bad to me, especially since Matt did win the show. I thought Stephen was also suggesting that James could also be on course to win. (I could be wrong though as I can't read his mind)

He's annoyed at being compared to a previous act because he likes to think he's sooooo unique and different. Whereas he's just mildly different compared to the usual mind-numbingly cliched dullness that normally comes out of the show.

Talk about defensive, I mean not forgetting his tweets when he threw all his toys out of the pram about the DS forum.

quoting cheryl cole? Bloody heck.
This has been said long before Cheryl Cole might have used it. It's certainly not unique to her. It can not be attributed to her as original at all.

don't know... maybe he was annoyed at being compared to an act who may have won but was left on the ground as other acts from the same series saw their careers actually take off...

To me this isn't even about James in particular. Just this mindset that having a personality is a bad thing. You need a personality to get somewhere in the industry yet having one is a handicap on the x-factor. It's the main issue between the huge disconnect correlation in votes & sales
It's possible to have a personality and not feel the need to gob off every time someone says something less than complementary about you..

On Xtra factor this weekend Stephen Mulhern came across as a total pratt. I think he's bitter about losing his Xtra factor job. The guy has nothing to offer IMO.

I also think it's better not to get drawn into an argument unless you know you can totally dominate.
Eve. Do you ever argue with your partner then? You must be always right.

Lol, I didn't mean that in the context of personal relationships, I meant it in the context of public figures. I think...

And it's my friend who's Eve, my name is Elle. Yes. I know. Didn't really think my username through to the logical conclusions people would draw from it.

Oh well, could be worse I guess...

the only thing i dont like about him is the fact he keeps saying "im not suited to the x factor" when really he's nothing different to what we have had before, he's not picking out there song choices, each week he takes a song and plays the guitar, its nothing new or anything.
I've only read that he'd said that once , and he's right he's not suited to the X factor which is what makes him less boring than most of the other Muppets they have on . Not including Will Young ( yes , I know it was Pop Idol but he's still around because he's not a Muppet )

At least if James wins I doubt he'll be releasing covers of his XF songs two years after his series ends.

Unlike Matt with "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."

I think James would be well advised to consider if, maybe, he's begining to take himself a tad too seriously

At this rate he's in danger of disappearing up his own arse

I'd be pissed off too at such a lazy comparison....
Same here. I think Mulhern sees a guy with a guitar and just assumes he is the same as another guy that was carrying a guitar. Apart from the guitar, there are no other similarities.

I think it's just the guy with guitar comparison. I'm sure if Matt had seen it, he'd be raising his eyebrows at it too.

Oh I think a more definate comparison than that can be made

... they have both been contestants on a talent show, looking for a short-cut to 'fame'

I have a very strong feeling that he will self destruct......ego will take over, I can see drink/drug related issues
He looks well on the way to that already!

Didn't he have to be taken away in an ambulance after one performance?

Whst xtraf job?

The man presents BGMT! And a great job he does of it! He's hysterical! And of all the years has not been replaced as the main host. He also has slots on This Morning which he presents well too!

I find him thoughly entertaining and always a giggle! He doesnt take things to seriously.

Advice for James - keep your powder dry. I just purchased a brand new BMW 5-series after making $7269 this last 5 weeks and in excess of ten/k lass-month. no-doubt about it, this really is the nicest-work I've ever done. I started this 3 months ago and practically straight away began to bring home at least $86 p/h. , Fox76.com

And - nicey nicey on the way up, cos blah blah down. True.

I tend to agree with you, he hasnt quite "made it" yet and IMo should just keep his head down and get the job done, i do have a feeling that whoever wins this series will be short lived in the public eye!!! poor series!
Not entirely poor, Ella was great, Rylan was fun and Jahmene is wonderful.

That's the only comparison I see too. I like both to be fair.
