Tulisa's album sells only 7000 copies - why so low?

I'm not a fan of Tulisa's but sales this low, even in today's climate must be very demoralising for her.

According to DS, it's likely to drop out of the Top 20 immediately.

So why does eveyone think it has failed so badly? Even age old bands like Kiss sell more than that in the UK (Kiss' most recent sold 12000 in Britain in the first week of release, and was widely regarded as a huge failure), so why would someone as high profile as Tulisa bomb so badly?

Bad X Factor performance. She had a huge stage to showcase what she has to offer and she blew it. Her personality on this years X Factor hasn't been great either. In all, this year, she portrayed herself to be not very "nice".

I think it's the combination of a poor product and badly managed PR around her personality. She comes across to me as if she doesn't really know what she wants to be - the rough chav we see warning people not to cross he ron Twitter or the down to earth, strong role model who has been a fantastic carer for her mother.

She isn't particularly talented either. Of course the same equally applies to Cheryl, the obvious one to compare her to - except Cheryl had experience in a massively successful mainstream band behind her before going onto X Factor. She also had a pretty successful start on the show without being caught up in controversy around bullying contestants in her first series (like Tulisa did with Misha B) or dodgy videos being released onto the web. Cheryl also compensates for weak vocals with impressive physical performances, Tulisa just doesn't have the stage presence to be a solo hit.

I think she's happy she made an album she liked and didn't have to sell it for 1.99 to get someone to buy it like some other artists connected with the x-factor

If she released the album after Young I think it would have gone top 5 bad timing imo

That song she did on the X Factor was pretty rubbish and she's not very likeable (I think she's done herself no favours on the show, especially this year.)

It's hard to know what her market is - I don't think young girls would identify with her particularly and she has no credibility.

#22 in the midweeks.

Although, at least she's doing better than Ke$ha who isn't even Top 40.

If that empowers you, assuming you are a woman, then you must have very low expectations of yourself. If you aren't a woman, then I don't even know how you are making that assumption.

dappy wanted to do a solo album, tulisa didn't really want to go solo.

if you look she's been on shows doing promo that her management set up, but on twitter she barely advertises her album.

dappy for example was putting the link to buy it every 20 minutes. i am not sure she's that fussed which is strange.

The "not bothered"/"made an album that she wanted, rather than a commercial one" angle is pure damage limitation at this point though. Tulisa and her management will be all too aware of the problems a commercial bomb can bring to someone in Tulisa's position. When a judges own album is outsold - significantly, too - buy former contestants of the show that she is on - there is a credibility issue, to say the least. People were only recently talking about Matt Cardle's album only selling 35k, and how badly it had performed. Tulisa will be lucky to hit half that by Xmas at this rate.

I think tbh Tulisa was probably pushed to a solo album I don't think she really wanted to she felt comfortable in N Dubz and when they decided to take a break she just wanted to do TV Stuff but her mangement probaly pushed her to make a solo album to capulise on her being on the X Factor.

She recently bought a 6m house so maybe she has more money than we think...i had a listen to her album on YouTube, its not that bad actually, think it deserves a top 10 anyway.
