Did anyone see this? The body language was painful! I'm not sure if I was reading too much into it, but James looked like he really didn't want to be there; he was leaning as far away from Christopher as possible and didn't react or interact with a word Christopher said. Christopher was upbeat and smiley, doing his so-proud-to-be-from-Liverpool thing, but James didn't smile once throughout the entire interview.

He'd better hope he doesn't win then - the first week for the winner is manic with 5am starts everyday.

James has already explained why he doesn't smile much. He's self conscious about his teeth.

Expect a Cowellesque smile soon.

He should have sorted them ages ago in that case!

I had never seen either of them talking and must say that Christopher was easily the most likeable of the two - and I preferred his singing. Jahmene's clip showed that he is of the school of thought where you fit in 100 notes instead of one!

Maybe he didn't have the money to sort them and the waiting list was too long.

James should have had his done ages ago if he's so nervous about them - I thought in previous series all the contestants had the teeth whitened with lasers and stuff like that?
James sounds like he has a mouthful of sweets when he's talking.

If you notice there are many times on the Xtra Factor that Christopher hugs other contestants and the don't return the hug or give him much eye contact. I get the feeling all is not well behind the scenes. There is something ...

But I might be wrong and they all love him.

Some one should take James to one side and give him some PR/on screen training - he really was painful to watch - zero personality and it won't have gained him many new fans , I felt sorry for the interviewers as he came across as a real misery . I have not watched either of them on x-factor but based on this morning , Chris is much more personable. If James want to take this further he should stop trying to be like Morrisey.

James could have had his teeth straightened when he was younger, then he wouldn't have had to pay for it.

I agree with Kate, he was painful to watch. He won't get anywhere unless he can communicate!

They're whiter than they were at auditions so I'd guess he's had that. I imagine he's still conscious that they're crooked (I similarly never smile in photos because I'm conscious of mine) and braces etc are EXPENSIVE. I imagine he'll come back with straighter teeth next year.

He's actually a charisma free zone (and this surely means he's not going to win this weekend as it's primarily a popularity contest).

That's exactly what I thought. It wasn't just about the lack of smiles....it was his general demeanour and moodiness, his complete blanking of Chris, and the way he spoke about the show itself (saying he wasn't the typical X Factor contestant and he would never have imagined himself singing covers on a talent show). It may just have been the way it came across, but it smacked of disrespect for the show and biting the hand that feeds him. In contrast, Chris was bubbly and personable (and I'm by no means a Chris fan!), full of enthusiasm for the show. Maybe that's why people like him?

Cathrin - you are exactly right ! I don't know much about either of them but based on this morning I would prefer Chris

Seems I'm a bit out of step here!! Although I don't particularly like Chris' singing, I've always thought the amount of vitriol directed towards him is unkind and disproportionate.
However this morning he really irritated me. Constantly repeating what sounded like rehearsed comments about his journey and so on (sounded like a politician)... even when what he was saying was not even in context; jumping in when the question was directed at James and so on. He just seemed to have a massive ego to me. James on the other hand when he could get a word in was eloquent and dignified. I dont think he seemed ungrateful at all.

Just to clarify - Id like Jahmane to win because I think hes the best singer - although all three styles are very different.

The guy lives in bedsit FFS like he has the money to pay for cosmetic dentistry. Maybe people like you should stop being so ruddy shallow so that he doesn't need to feel self conscious

I'm sure he will get them sorted in time. I've seen adverts for an "invisible" brace claimed to have been used by Kylie.

Two of the current F1 drivers have braces, and they all have bright white teeth. It's as if, as soon as they got an F1 drive, they realised they needed to sort their teeth out. Personally I don't see any shame in doing that so publicly. James should get a brace straight after the show if he's self-conscious about his teeth, and sod who sees it!
