I absolutley love Mariah Carey, after watching her performance of "Christmas Time Is In The Air Again" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqQ2VOpP7fI
I thought wow. Her voice is back! I would love her to ease off the R&B stuff like Triumphant and go back to the days of songs like, Dreamlover, Fantasy,Always Be My Baby and Honey.

I do honestly believe she could storm the charts with this kind of R&B again. She didn't look strained whilst singing Christmas Time, and I think maybe she should come back with an album where she's abit carefree and relaxed on the vocals, and sings songs to suit her voice now! When she started to incoperate R&B into her music she really produced some amazing stuff. Breakdown off the Butterfly album anyone?

I hope this post makes sense lol. Any thoughts on what you would you like to see from Mariah? x

I agree, a song like Fantasy is really friendly and would work in todays US market like Taylor Swift/Cary Rae Jepsen.

Mariah in her prime was releasing the type of song that could smash on US radio today. She just needs them kind of hits instead of utter garbage like Triumphant.

I would love something like this from her again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPsMq5oRnB4

Although, to be honest, I don't think R&B will ever be big in the charts ever again unfortunately.

I wouldn't say never, this whole dance craze won't last forever, trends just come and go every few years. I'm sure it'll make a comeback at some stage - fingers crossed anyway.

This song Juicy Fruit (you tube it) just came into my head, think it would be a cool song for Mariah to sample!

1990-98 her most productive and brillaint era finished off with her most R&B/Hip-Hop influenced work up to that point it was on trend and still commercially viable. The issue is not her whole R&b direction its more the case of lack of balance or genuine direction is she 90's Diva Mariah WBT ot hip-hop ho Triumphant she needs to take a step back strip it all away and start over. Look at TEOM nothing to lose and knocked it out of the park her best album in 7 years that appealed across genres and people and was a pardon the pun Triumphant return after that it turned sour.

Mariah was at her best when she combined r&b and pop together (like dreamlover, fantasy etc) - I doubt she'll go back to it unfortunately

I actually thought that Triumphant had a pretty decent chorus, it just needed a better arrangement and production. The rappers didn't help either.

Loved mariah until the one after her Butterfly album. Now I think she's one of the worst singers in the world. It's like listening to a cat that';s lost it's voice.

Dreamlover is one of favorite Mariah Carey songs but I do not see her producing material like that anymore because she probably feels that R n B sounds more contemporary.

The issue is Mariah herself. I mean, she's an incredible singer and writer, but it all depends on who is directing her. If she had it her way, songs like Dreamlover, Fantasy etc. probably wouldn't exist because she's utterly R&B/Hip-Hop at heart, but Sony knew exactly what to do with her and what songs she needed to write so they told her to. When she came back with The Emancipation of Mimi, it was L.A. Reid who caused her to write It's Like That, Shake It Off and We Belong Together (the three most successful songs on the album) by sending her to Atlanta for writing sessions with Jermaine Dupri, all because he wanted to ensure commercial success.
Thankfully, Mariah still has L.A. Reid behind her, and Randy as a manager. I pray they'll keep a lid on her urban identity. It's fair enough she wants to make songs like Triumphant (Get 'Em), but they're just not what makes her successful.

Listening to Dreamlover, and it guts me this sort of thing from her is prob a thing of the past. Although I love I'm That Chick from E=MC2! Kinda sounds like old school Mariah!

I think she's just confused about both direction and target audience.

Beyonce is expected to be going back to proper RnB with her next album. The U.S absolutely love her over there and I reckon the album will smash and the U.S will love it, which I then think will start to bring RnB back over to the U.K again the commercial charts. Then I think Mariah would have a shot with an RnB album.

Mariah doesn't need Beyonce to open any doors for her. Mariah was the one who opened the doors for her.

It's true though. If someone like Beyonce can bring RnB back to the charts, Mariah will have an easy hit again. She's not a forgotten artist, she's just not relevant at the moment. When she becomes relevant - you know what she's capable of.
