Merry (violent) christmas
Well, if I was a charactor in a soap, When it gets near christmas, i would lock myself in my bedroom, with a fire extinguisher, tranqualiser gun, and a bottle of prozac. Why can't soaps realise christmas is a time of family's...its the only day of the year many british familys get together. why dont they just do normal things at xmas, maybe have different familys having different kinds of christmases, (traditional, modern, alternative) someone chokes on a sprout, some get drunk and fall, and someones turkey gets burnt so they end up having linda mcartney sausages instead! Then at the end it begins to snow and they all run outside and listen to xmas songs.
Then all the violent, bloodthirsty, sick, non festive storylines could happen in the last 2 weeks of January, where the days are short, and storylines normally scarce. It makes sense. start writing to your local MP's now! |

Because it makes for interesting viewing to have a lot of drama
. Though a good comedy-filled episode can be just as good.

Well they can do either of these at any time of the year. xmas should be comedy. Power cuts and the comunity pulling together to eat salad and sing hyms....Cilla trying to cook for a bet with Janis...Carrots which have been cursed by indian gods...etc etc

Emmerdale is going to be the more comedy-fuelled of the three this xmas, if you're interested
Not that I'm in any way plugging it of course...

Well in the 'olden' days of Corrie it was usually a fun and festive episode with a pantomime, Eastenders set the tone for the grim Xmas reaper I think.
I dont think Corrie used to have tragic Xmas |

Because thees storylines are usually brilliant in a Xmas setting. Not all families enjoy festive fun and frolics you know. Although not quite as bad as Enders usually is, I know one or two families who nearly always have murder at Christmas.
You expect Enders to have some sort of tragedy at Christmas. Corrie are following suit this year because they've had a year of high drama storylines so may aswell round it off with a bang. |

Indeed, aren't there actually more deaths at Christmas than any other time anyway? Admittedly most of these are probably car accidents, but then you have suicide and Christmas does funny things to all sorts of people, especially when it's not a happy time for them.
The soaps are supposed to represent real-life with the heat turned up x1000, so having a mixture of misery and happiness at Xmas is kind of accurate. |

...though having the "misery" part happen to the same people over and over again is most certainly NOT, but we can ignore that fact

lol I don't mean murder as in actually taking a life, I mean murder as in fighting and rowing and a lot of plates and glass objects bein smased. One year we had a very Enders Xmas, my aunts house went up in flames after her boyfriend went on a drug fuelled rampage after cheating on her, he threw her and the kids out into the garden first, then he burned the kids Xmas pressies in front of them! My aunt fled to a nearby house, looked out the window to see the house go up in smoke.
Unfortunately the psycho lived, he was saved. Had it been truly Enders Xmas, he'd have died lol |

That's the craziest real life thing I've heard in ages.
Well done Will, but to be honest - I would get myself into the bathroom and hibernate for a week or so. Just in case. |

Wow Will, I used to think those fantasy soap plots you invent were just imagination, but now I see where they come from
Hope it's a bit quieter for you this year!

Well last year my sisters boyfriend was beaten up on New Years Eve, one of the neighbours did a Mad Maya and tried running over two other neighbours, a different aunt and uncle split up on Xmas Day, whilst I found out that one of my best friends boyfriends had been beating her up for three years. And then we had a powercut. lol
Lets hope its a quiet one this year. |
