I think voting for the likes of Christopher proves that karaoke or not people watching don't really want young relevant singers that would look at home in the charts but something more mainstream and classic pop, even if it's a bit cheesy. I was at the dentists a few days back and the hygienist (in her early 20s I'd guess) asked what I was listening to on my iPod and told me she liked 80s pop - music made before she was born essentially.
