Does anyone think it is like she is being remote controlled?

She gives the shortest comments which are always generic and clearly scripted. She only gives one line while the others elaborate.

We all know the "mentors" don't do half as much as they'd like us to believe but it is cringe-worthy watching the VTs with her putting forward her "ideas". She's clearly just been scripted by someone else.

There's also just this... I don't know... look she has that I can't put my finger on. It's difficult to explain but her expression always looks... soulless or something.

I agree... I question with Britney whether it's good for her to be there. She doesn't seem mentally all there to do the show as a judge (She's portrayed as a great mentor but it's hard to comment on the validity of something that could easily be 100% down to the producers) She can't be doing much for the ratings either considering how inane and pointless her commentary is.

I think she just struggles in live situations due to problems in the past. She's improved since 2011 though, her interviews for her last album were terrible

I do think she enjoys it though, she just finds it hard to critique.

Exactly. This is what I find strange - the network seems to think she is the one who will bring the ratings but everyone seems to agree that she has the opposite effect. What's the point of a judge who struggles to judge?

I find her quite good. I just think people are annoyed that she isn't a tranwreck or having a breakdown every week live on TV.

She gives precise, constructive feedback, and is usually very polite. The "scripted" aspect is better than babbling banter, but I wouldn't expect her to be anything but professional in her role as judge. She had a great spark and element of fun in her audition phase. I'd say if there was an Xtra Factor for the USA she'd be shown having a blast. I think Britney Spears knows that a live show where she isn't the centre of attention is not the time or place to be kooky, crazy, unconstructive or unprofessional.

She looks amazing, and brings star quality to the panel. Job done.

As far as experience goes she's overqualified due to her status as Queen of Pop. The past has hurt her yes but she's still as likeable as ever and I find her captivating as always. Haters hate.

You can't be a true fan of someone if you can't admit when they are flawed.

Britney Spears on The X-Factor has been a complete let down, she has displayed no personality, shown any compassion and the animated voice she puts on is ridiculous.

She is obviously still struggling with her confidence and anxieties, so why has she been plonked on such a high-profile show?!...

her job is to mentor and judge. She obviously passed on mentoring but failing judging.

Britney's too nice to criticize

What exactly were people expecting from her?

Tears? Drama? Bitchiness? "When I kissed Madonna..."? "I don't sing live, but If I did I'd do it differently than you just did"? "You'll never be a star *to a little girl*"? Randomly breaking into dance mid-sentence?

I have seen her show personality aplenty at the auditions. Even in the live shows. She cried at Boot Camp. And her voice is her voice.
She's doing what a judge/mentor should do.

Her huge paycheck for this year has turned this show into the money pit. She brings nothing really to the judging panel except insipid and pointless critique.

She will not be asked to return next year without taking a massive down grade in pay, that is my prediction. The overall ratings cannot carry that kind of heavy paycheck.

That's a common judgement people make against those with mental health problems. Nice.

yes me to.
i really dont get what everyones problem is?

i do agree that since the live shows started, she could perhaps elaborate on a few of her critiques.
but at times i kind of like the straight to the point comments she makes,
i especially like it in the 'sing-off' when she has to choose an act to send home and she just says the name straight away without all this nail biting 'i dont know which one to pick' poppycock

And I disagree. I get that the public in general think this of her but her fans are loving it, that's all that will matter to her and her team. It's been a good way of bringing her out of her shell more because since her "comeback" she's been guarded to the max. She's pretty much having to learn to get comfortable in a candid way again, and for me she's doing great.

People want dramatics and OTT fake reactions such as Nicole. In america it's not quite the same which is why Nicole bombed terribly over there. But Britney, if you listen to her comments, always has a point. She just doesn't go into detail. You can see from when LA sometimes questions her comments or tries to add something to what she said she seems a little stifled.

But I do wish people would be a little more sympathetic and less judgemental. She's probably the most scrutinised celebrity of our generation and the world is lucky to still have her around. The public contributed heavily to her fall, but aren't prepared to accept what she has managed to climb back to.

The way Britney gives feedback is so mechanical. So far, most of what comes from her is: "that was amazing/good", or if she didn't enjoy a performance it's: "I was bored", "it was good but not great". Unlike the other judges, she never elaborates and offer anything constructive on how the acts could improve for next time.

If I could use her comments here as an example. She's clearly not afraid to say what she thinks. She is not at all robotic. And although she doesn't take a minute explaining her point or messing about, she makes a good point, one which Simon ends up saying himself, the only difference being that he took a longer time to say it and mentioned a few things a little irrelevant to critiquing that performance.

I do think though that the American reaction to her is different to the reaction over here in the UK.

I think she has improved over the past couple of weeks, to begin with she just told everyone it was beautiful or if they did get a negative comment it was a couple of words with no explanation.
She has started voicing a bit more of an opinion with a little back up, however her delivery is not always the best, it does not show much personality.

I think its because she is just reading from a script and has no clue what to do when anyone talks to her, be it the other judges or the presenters. She was even wearing an ear piece in the earlier live shows so the producers could feed her lines.

It pretty sad to watch her nowadays tbh. Compare her to say Christina on the US The Voice, I am not the hugest fan of either but Christina gives real feedback about the performers voices and can also interact and have fun with the other judges.

Theres noway Simon would renew Britney's contract. 15 million is a mind blowing waste of money for her. Such a disappointment for the show.

What do people expect?

I haven't seen any of the US X Factor but I take it she is just on the show because of her name. Many big celebrities and stars are in reality very boring people. I guess it is hard for her to fake it on screen.

She couldn't even remember Carly's name and she was stood right in front of her.. great mentor that she is.

Well I still love her. She's settled in now and has a bit more life about her, she just doesn't egg up the nonsense for the show the way the others do. She seems to have a few phrases per act ready to use, if she likes a performance she uses "positive comment (a)" and if she doesn't, she uses "negative comment (b)" she doesn't throw insults aimed at the judges at the acts and she doesn't play games to throw other acts under the bus.

Also, she's Britney Spears, Demi got it right this week, if the Princess of Pop likes something, who are we to argue.

I like her. She may not be the most detailed in her commentary but she's straight to the point which is a nice contrast to the usual bickering and drawn out praise the judges bring.

She's probably one of the most highly qualified judges to ever be on these types of shows alongside Mariah Carey and Xtina, and I know I would value her critique no matter how simple it is. Her industry experience is immense.
