Cancel land line for mobile
I am thinking of getting rid of the land line and getting a mobile for home use to replace it.
Would you be able to tell me the best (cheapest) mobile deal to get? I am looking for about 300 mins talk per month not bothered about using it for text. Thanks |

If you get rid of a landline you won't have a broadband connection... sure you want to do that?
Yes if you go with a BB provider like virgin you don't need a landline but its more expensive |

I don't need a land line because I use a dongle--better for a business with home calls.

You need to think very carefully before getting rid of broadband. Mobile data is usually a lot more expensive for a slower connection and less data allowance.

Also, people are much happier calling a land line than a mobile

He could get a sipgate virtual landline number for free, then if he has the right type of mobile he can set it up within phone settings to receive any calls to that landline number. I do that with my Galaxy Note II.

I am still hoping for recommendations You mention you have a broadband dongle instead of fixed line broadband? Or do you mean you want to get a dongle instead of fixed line broadband? Care to elaborate on this? You can get a phone package with a budget phone and 300 mins for around £8-12pm on a contract (check car phone warehouse) but it should not replace your home landline. It should compliment it. |

I think I'm getting there. I.e getting rid of my landline phone and now also getting rid of my dongle.
E.g Vodafone do a sim only deal for £10.50 which with the free call minutes gets me well under the cost of the landline, £14/m+calls. Since it has internet connection as well I can wi-fi link it to my computer for away from home business use. The virgin deal looks good too. Has anybody done this or is there a better way ? |

I got my of my land line a long time ago. With everyone here having a cell phone, there was no point in a land line

May be best to go with three or T mobile I think for around £26 you can have as much data as you need.
Though if you have a PS3 or Xbox or anything like that you may need the landline. |

Has anybody done this or is there a better way ? make sure you know how much data you need for your internet connection. As now that you don't have broadband you're going to have to rely on a 3G signal for all your data. Also make sure the plan/phone you buy supports tethering otherwise you won't be able to use the 3G connection on your home pc. Imo getting rid of your home broadband connection and landline for a phone is not the wisest decision in the world, Espcially when the plan your after provides you with only 250mb download allowance. You're going to need maybe an unlimited download allowance with tethering which no network does apart from Three for £25pm. and you need to check if you actually get signal from three or the network you choose first. |
