I would say so. I think he'd tap into the motown/soul genre.

Thoughts on his marketability whether or not he wins the show?

Not really. Bargain bucket material at best.

Hard to say, it depends how open he is to commercialise his current sound. He has an incredible retro old school soul voice but he might have to apply that to more modern dance beats to get single hit records. Or he could, preferably, go the Rebecca Feguson route of soul/jazz and make a great album. That's why I'd prefer him to be a runner up and plow his own furrow as it were.

He will do very well because that voice will never date. I see him as primarily a live performer. He writes so it will be interesting to hear what songs he has.

I meant to add this as well. He could just tour the gospel circuit out there and earn a lot of money.

The thing is with Jahmene is it wouldn't take a lot to make him happy, just a nice lifestyle for himself and his mum by singing. He doesn't come over as wanting to be fabulously famous and have a string of million selling albums.

He needs a bit of work to make him marketable. Singing live he's all over the place whenever he 'releases the nitro', and he isn't very good at promotional interviews, giving short or noncommittal answers punctuated by giggles. He's going to be a tough one to market when he can barely promote himself.

The biggest 'red flag' though is the way he's already refused to do things because of his religious morality (example, the group song which referenced drinking alcohol). I adored Marcus Canty from last year's X Factor USA, he's a rare thing these days; a young black guy with an authentic R&B singing voice who doesn't rap like the others all feel they 'gangsta' should, and he is also a very religious guy. But that didn't stop him from being a sexy dancer, sliding underneath some girl singers' dresses in an XF dance routine, and singing about contemporary themes in his music post XF. Will Jahmene 'tart out' a little to make himself commercial?

If he's going to be all puritanical about things he may end up limiting himself into making an album of gospel/christian music and politely safe old skool soul covers, and I can't see that selling well. But if he was prepared to be more mainstream, taught to control his runs, and coached in interview techniques, he is perhaps the only act this year with any obvious chance of breaking through in America.

Yes I agree. He has a strong faith and I think he loves his gospel music. I see him following the route in america that Michelle from Destinys child took. She had a no1 gospel album.

I don't think Rebecca's success is down to the genre of music she has gone for. She has a distictive voice and her style of singing is quite unique. I don't think it's the same with Jahmene. He screams Joe Mcelderry mark II to me.

We already have plenty of significantly better and more authentic gospel singers.

I pray they aren't given the same songs.

Olly singing The Climb was wrong in so many ways.

I think he's extremely marketable. Surely substance over style will reassert itself in the near future.
