does music influence a persons mood/thoughts?

if you drink 2 litres of coke a day and live off junk food then its going to be bad for your body, i would say repeated exposure day in and day out to angry music or music with a bad attitude like gangsta rap etc is bound to have some effect on a persons mood or on their beliefs.

what do you guys think ?

Good question.

But no, i've been listening to gangsta rap for a while now, and I have no urge to be violent, aggressive etc.

Its only a very small group of people who are so emotionally affected by it that they'd commit acts of crime or violence.

i think a rousing tune can raise your spirits but i don't think it can really lead you to commit crime

I don't think music influences a mood or behaviour, I think it reflects the mood or behaviour, because if you are sad you listen to a song with meaningful lyrics and if you are happy you generally listen to an upbeat song. However, I think if you listen to a song that reflects your mood, it doesn't help and can influence your mood slightly, making you more unhappy or angry.

more or less agree with marzipan, (and excuse me if the following is not what you meant, at all!)
they reflect people, not cause it
for me in particular
last night at the proms = lifelong tory
any oasis track = somebody who doesn't get out much (except me, who never stays in typing on a forum, of course)
Travis = people who like to stick blunt pencils in their eyes (will i get banned for that last bit?)

I agree with marzipan and low life.
But there are times where I listen to a really sad, depressing song, and it just gets me right down- if I wasnt there already

Yes, I fourth that. The music I listen to reflects my mood rather than influence it.
