Apps for Nokia Lumia 820

Ok I have a couple of questions..

What's the difference between the market place and app highlights? I assumed the highlights would be a selection of popular apps from the marketplace.

But I wanted to download Whatsapp, it didn't come up when I searched for it in the market place, but it did in app highlights.. so I assume these are 2 different things, but why?

My other issue is with the above mentioned app. I wanted to download it as a friend I talk to doesn't get free texts so we use that to talk to each other. She has the Nokia Lumia 800, when I found the app it said I couldn't download it as It wasn't compatable with my phone and try updating software.

The phone tells me my software is up to date, my phone is newer than hers so is there something I'm missing?

It's because they are making a new version for WP8.

I'm guessing that the market place is just for WP8 then, and the highlights is like a "best of" for both WP7 and WP8?
It's the only reason I can think the app wasn't available to view in both locations.

The marketplace has some quirks to it, especially on a Nokia. You get two marketplaces - the general marketplace and the Nokias-specific one. Highlights is a Nokia app that shows selected apps from both marketplaces.

WP8 will run most WP7 apps (like more than 99% of them) but there's a handful it won't run for a number of reasons about how those apps were developed.

Ok thanks for both your replies. That clears it up. They may have been stupid questions to most people, but I've been an iPhone freak for the last 3 years or more years. Before that it was the Nokia Xpress music phone which I don't remember much about.
