I can't believe that every year people come on here and slate those who enjoy the inoffensive and light hearted affair of partaking in jovial and friendly conversation about something they enjoy. it's no different to saying "I am counting down the days until the football season starts!" You carry on liking what you like and let everyone else carry on liking what they like. And, if it annoys you so much, don't participate in a Christmas thread that is not only clearly labelled but also has been going for several years now. Long before you joined DS. It's called respect.

So it's been announced that the Royle Family won't be returning for a Christmas special in 2013.. shocked? and what do you think should replace it.. this article suggests more ab fab or work with Catherine Tate.

^ really disappointed in no Royle Family

Even if it wasn't at its best last year, compulsive Christmas Day viewing

Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys on Christmas Day would be a winner, especially since managed to achieve massive ratings on Boxing Day. I think a Christmas schedule of...

14:00 Top of the Pops Christmas Special
15:00 The Queen
15:10 FILM: Toy Story 3
16:45 BBC News
17:00 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
18:30 Doctor Who Christmas Special
19:30 EastEnders
20:00 Call The Midwife
21:00 EastEnders
21:30 Miranda Christmas Special
22:00 Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Special
23:00 BBC News

Personally I'd axe SCD off Christmas Day onto either Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, however, I can't see that actually happening. The BBC would certainly have my viewing for most of that schedule!

I have a great doubt that there will be no Miranda on Christmas Day. I think we may see this on Christmas Day this year:

3.10 Film: Puss in Boots
4.30 BBC News
4.45 Film: Toy Story 3
6.15 Doctor Who
7.15 Strictly Come Dancing
8.30 EastEnders
9.30 Mrs. Browns Boys
10.10 The Catherine Tate Christmas Show/Absolutely Fabulous
10.55 Citizen Khan
11.30 BBC News

With Christmas Eve being:

5.35 BBC News
6.00 Film: A Christmas Carol
7.30 EastEnders
8.00 Atlantis (Final episode)
8.45 Call The Midwife
9.45 Last Tango in Halifax (Christmas Special)
10.45 Miranda (Christmas episode from 2010)
11.15 BBC News
11.35 Midnight Mass

And Boxing Day:

5.30 David Walliams' Gangsta Granny
6.30 EastEnders
7.00 Film: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
9.15 Not Going Out Christmas Special
9.45 Would I Lie To You
10.15 BBC News
10.30 Match of the Day

3.00pm The Queen
3.10pm Film : Toy Story 3
5.00pm Mouse & Mole (animation)
5.30pm News
5.45pm Doctor Who
6.45pm Strictly Come Dancing
8.00pm Call the Midwife
9.00pm EastEnders
10.00pm TBA - Comedy

A Christmas Carol was shown last year on Christmas eve on the Same time. I Don't think BBC Will do that, but maybe somthing like Cars 2 would be shown?

In 2003 and 2006 Chicken Run was shown on Christmas Eve at the same time. They probably won't show A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve at 6.00pm. More likely, A Christmas Carol will turn up this year as the Christmas Morning film. I think though, Kung Fu Panda 2 will be the Christmas Eve movie as I had forgotten about that!

God. What an awful schedule! Especially the Little and Large bit!

I realise that it's kind of a given, but there'll be the usual QI Christmas special. This year's ('Kris Kringle') has Phill Jupitus, Jo Brand and Brendan O'Carroll.

My prediction for the guess the cover contest is Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray dressed in a Santa Claus suit.

Every year I see TBA listed in the schedule, but it always gets postponed, which is a pity as TBA is 1 of my all time favourite programmes.

Surely they wouldn't put Matt Smith final episode so early? I'd switch SCD and DW to have the latter at 7pm. Nice round number and it would be strong competition against (most likely) Emmerdale.

I have it half an hour later than last year when it was on at 5.15pm!

BBC are reviving the Ghost Story for Christmas. The MR James story "The Tractate Middoth" will be written and directed by Mark Gatiss and will be shown on BBC2.

If they follow the previous tradition it will be shown late on Christmas Eve.

Do you know what year this was last shown on TV?

A Ghost Story for Christmas was on the BBC1 from 1971 to 1978 and revived in 2005 on BBC Four.

The Tractate Middoth has not been shown before, this is a new story to TV.
