Maybe the question should be what is the most posts on a countdown thread.

God, I wish films would just stay on the same blinking channel like they used to do! It is getting really daft now. How can ALL channels hold rights to ALL films some of the time and other films NONE of the time?

I agree!

The Polar Express has only ever been shown on ITV, now it appears Channel 5 have the rights to it!

Does anyone actually know (and can provide a source) of which channels have rights to which films?

Cause they are all competing for ratings, some film companies only let certain channels show their movies a certain amount of times in a year. I remember not to long ago when ITV+1 came out and the film that was on ITV wasn't shown on +1 because it would breech their contact of amount of times they show the movie. Don't know if that still happens today, but now you have how many times it's shown in HD as well.

I don't know if they make that information public or not.

That has always been the case. If the BBC bought rights to a film package, they would be allowed to show that film around four times in a six year period. But nowadays a broadcaster buys a film, so does another one and it also appears on a different channel too. Happy Feet for instance was on ITV until last Boxing Day where it strangely appeared on BBC1 and has subsequently been shown on ITV again since. It is confusing. Broadcasters always did make statements about who had what film rights. Nowadays it is a free for all.

Also had the most views. 191,320.

The first one in 2008 had the least. 21 pages (520 posts) and 61,517 views.

”

The next few days will see this thread become a bit more active. Tomorrow is the expected launch of the BBC Christmas highlights package. Then the provisional schedules and finally early-mid week next week will be the confirmed schedules. All that comes before the traditional Friday before on sale date reveal of the RT cover. Lots to talk about and lots of chances to beat last years posts.

And guys, please, remember we buy the Christmas RT for a reason. So, if you want to post official schedules in this thread (as is traditional), please can you put them in spoiler tags. Thanks.

Ooops, that was a mistake. It was supposed to change Still Open All Hours to xmas day at 19:30 with an hour of EE at 21:00.

I think they could show two premieres close together, it would get them big ratings from The Queen onwards!

Yeah I think you are right. This time last year there were 858 posts on 35 pages. So this year should beat last year quite easily.

Oooooh so fecking excited for the films! The best part of Christmas for me, personally. Every year I get surprised because I don't expect certain films to premiere. I didn't expect Cars 2 and POTC 4 to premiere this year so it was nice to see that.

Plus the jumping of films is quite annoying IMO. I enjoy Polar Express on ITV every year and it's quite weird that A Christmas Carol was only on BBC for a year before it got shifted to Channel 5. And now Finding Nemo has found its way back to BBC? So confusing! All Disney films (new and old) should just be on one channel.

Also, how did the Mirror get this list? I was quite looking forward to the press release but couldn't stop myself from reading the list

well said. I think i'll duck out of this thread from release date until i've sat in a quiet room and perused it in depth. In fact i reckon this thread will have tumbleweed blowing through it on release date while everyone has a look at that magical issue

Definitely hoping that some of these "amateur" schedules are correct and that Downton Abbey is up against Eastenders. That would be a straight BBC day and evening for me with a quick flick over to an hour of ITV. Although, to be honest, sometimes BB2 and Channel 4 have better shows on over Christmas.

It seems the Toy Stories are the serial channel hoppers. Originally BBC, it was a Xmas/Bank Holiday classic before Channel 5 took the rights - making a huge deal out of it.

IIRC C5 only showed it once before it moved again to ITV where it was similarly shown once or twice - with heavy saturation on ITV2. Now it seems they're back to BBC with TS3 on Christmas Day.
