One of the Radio Times Favourites on the cover this week.

Reminds me: Julie Walters and Victoria Wood haven't been on the cover for a while.

It's arrived a bit late (for Christmas 2012 or very early for Christmas 2013) but Film4 are showing

"It's a Wondeful Life"

Sat 9th February at 2.40pm and again on

Fri 15th February at 2.50pm

I wonder if Film4 will broadcast this film at Christmas 2013. It hasn't been on terrestrial TV for years.

Good spot - now I just need to Sky+ it and with an estimated viewing date of, on or around 01 Dec 2013, hope nothing befalls my Sky+ planner as seems to happen annually. For those about to suggest I Sky+ it and save to DVD, I have not got a DVD recorder

You could always buy the DVD.

Perhaps a bit controversial here, but does anyone else think, like me, that 'It's a Wonderful Life' isn't quite as good as it's made out to be??

Not that it's a bad film, just not a classic.

I can honestly say I have never watched it. I bought the original White Christmas last christmas and still haven't made time to watch that either! Maybe if the snow returns and I get snowed I might get to see it.

What is your all time classic christmas film??

I think the Alastair Sim version of Scrooge is fantastic. I would also go with Holiday Inn, where the song White Christmas first appears.

Yeh, there does seem to be a lot of older viewers who watched the original series who don't like the recent specials but younger viewers love the specials.

For many Christmas Eve - Christmas Night, Boxing Day Night, are traditional Christmas family viewing nights. I think the beeb are guaranteed 10m viewers at 9 -10pm slots before a programme is even scheduled. I would like to see start and finish viewing figures for the Royle's. I think it would make very interesting reading. Also, only just got around to watching 'Restless' which was excellent and again demonstrates the quality of BBC Drama.”

Mrs Brown is still getting 14m viewers a week so I don't think it's just because it's Christmas.

Yes Scrooge! stand out best Christmas film, I remember reading the book as a child year after year to get me in the spirit (if you'll excuse the pun) of things. A few years ago one of the Sunday red-tops was giving away a free digitally remastered and colourised DVD of the film and i still play it early December each year. Even played it once at October half-term

This from media guardian shows the RT had a good Christmas despite local supermarkets having loads of left over copies

the Radio Times had a good Christmas with its overall sale up 3.1% on 2011 to 2,175,056, according to the publishers' equivalent of overnight TV ratings. Such was its success, the listings mag market, which would have declined 0.38% without it, grew 0.57% year on year over the festive period. Why would the RT alight on that particular stat, Monkey Wonders? Anyway, Radio Times managing director Kathy Day said it was a "phenomenal performance". The mag, edited by Ben Preston, was helped by its first TV advertising campaign since 2005. Other TV listings magazines are available.

There is little interest in this particular RT thread for viewing current covers. It is a Christmas Countdown thread and as such Christmas related topics are really the only things that gauges interest. I have now started a Non-Christmas Radio Times Thread for information such as current covers, price changes and new looks. Sorry to be pedantic mate, but I only checked in on this thread as I thought there was Christmas related news!

That would be a big hit in our house! We love that story and it does have father christmas featuring at the end. It would be great to see that on on TV. I would also like to a squash and a squeeze too!
