Finally got my copy this morning. Wondering about the cover, was last year's such a big seller they practically repeated it or did their intended cover star pull out at short notice?

Nothing about this "cancelling after the 8th edition"!”

Oddly, my online status now shows that I have 28 issues remaining and that my subscription will cancel on expiry. No idea where they've got that from - i'm certainly not paying them anything else, DD was cancelled on Monday!

The '13 editions for 90p' is obviously a ridiculous bargain but the whole cancelling after the 8th edition thing (if it's true) is sneaky. I read the small print and e-mails very carefully and didn't see one mention of it anywhere. My subscription simply said that a 2nd payment would be taken in early January and that I could cancel at any time.”

I did the '90 days for 90p' deal as well. I was a bit worried but it arrived today.

There isn't anything about the 8th issue that I can see.
Anyway, I'm now off to cancel my subscription.

Or, did the artist who created both do two at the same time with RT always intending to use the cover we have this from as early as last year? Maybe to save money.

I suppose it would have been tempting.

RT Manager 1: "So, shall we start the whole cover design process?"

RT Manager 2: "I suppose so, we need to keep costs down though"

RT Manager 3: "What if we just used one of the rejected designs from last year?"

RT Manager 1: "Wow, that's thinking outside the box"

RT Manager 2: "Trebles all round!"

It does rather look like an alternative, unused design from last year, but given the Christmas issue is their biggest seller I'd hardly think they'd skimp on the cost of the cover. Can't shake the feeling this was a last minute replacement for something else.

3 managers at RT, crickey they can make some savings there surely!

And while they are at it, PLEASE get rid of Alison Graham. Never have I heard such self opinioned twaddle in all my born days. These days, I play a little game with myself where I test out just how quickly I can turn the page over and miss her coloumn entirely.

I am baffled by RT's "DA" as Christmas Day pick of the day. Surely with such a huge turnaround in Doctor Who I'd have thought that would have been. Alison Graham's obvious love-fest with Downton is sickening.

Lol! But I actually meant that RT commissioned the artist to do two covers for two seperate years. Perhaps the intention was to have two alternatives last year but the editor liked both cover designs so decided to use one last year and one this year.

Bought my copy today, bought the Total TV Guide double edition yesterday while awaiting RT. Total TV was only 2 quid and by far the better magazine and in particular for digital listings.

RT get your act together and as regards the price compared to other mags, I won't even go there! but like many others I'll continue to buy the double issue each year. And they know that, hence the reason they charge what they like.

In the penultimate RT before the Christmas double there is a survey in there on the RT.

Anyone with views, such as poor daytime listings you can make your views known.

You can complete online.

Yes. I got my copy and was very surprised that they are promoting a repeat of The Snowman and The Snowdog. Great artwork but they could have had Sherlock, Open All Hours, Dr Who, Man Down or many more!

Thanks - I just completed it.

I feel a bit of a fraud because I only receive the RT as part of the promotion. I basically told them that the only way i'd pay for the magazine on a regular basis would be if it removed it's listings (which I find pointless given my Tivo) and instead used the space to highlight and discuss new/interesting shows and the world of tv in general.

Just because you have Tivo doesn't mean everyone does. Why would they remove the listings which are its biggest selling point just to please you?

Has no one realised that the santa picture used on the front cover is actually Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs which is on tv (very early) on christmas day? There's also the snowman, the snowman and the snow dog and the Bear on this christmas - all Raymond Briggs creations. Maybe it's a tribute to him with him dying last Christmas.

i've also realised something while reviewing with my highlighter last night (purple incase you were wondering!).

The TV for me is a expected - distinctly average with a few hings to get excited about, but when looking for things which the kids would like to watch/record, theres absolutely loads of thinigs - therefore, i don't thing christmas TV quality has changed... i just grew up!

Although i must admit, i'm looking forward to sharing a few tv moments with the kids... all of the raymond briggs stuff, room on the broom, mouse & mole, toy story 2 & 3, Sarah & Duck Christmas special, fantasia, the grinch, the princess and the frog....

and for me, gangsta granny, Dr Who, Sherlock, IT crowd, QI, Victoria Wood, 12 drinks of christmas....

Call me thick, but isn't the point of a TV listings magazine to list the TV programmes... we all have freeview and can see listings on TV, it doesn't mean we don't enjoy a mag to flick through.

I believe it's also the same Father Christmas that appears in the Snowman and the Snowman & the Snowdog!

Are you sure Raymond Briggs has died?

yes, he died at the end of last year just as the snowdog was finished, he saw it and was happy with it but died before it was screened.

Strange couldn't find anything on the internet about him dying and there's nothing about it on his Wikipedia page!

Are you sure that you're not thinking of the Producer John Coates who died in September 2012?

Not in the least - I heard he had a double and the real Raymond Briggs did in fact die last year.
