Are there still fools out there who think X Factor is about finding talent?

If there are, I feel very sorry for them

Its a cheap Saturday night show about getting headlines for the judges.

The thing is though, X Factor does find talent. It just fails to use this talent to their own advantage, and instead make decisions like keeping Rylan in over Carolynne for controversy or keeping District 3 in over Melanie due to "commercial" aspects as opposed to who was the better singer on the night.

As soon as the sing-off is fixed - take me back to series five; I think the show will be back on track.

I still think the show is about finding talent. Look at all the pop stars it's found in the past 10 years and the lives it has changed.

Olly Murs is currently no. 1 in the singles and album charts.

I think there have been a lot of talented contestants in this series but the shows have let them down.
Some awful song choices with the emphasis on "making a cover song your own" has ruined a lot of the performances.
The judges have been downright nasty at times and long VT's of sob stories have tried to persuade viewers to vote on personality rather than the actual singing.

Are you saying that the pushing of Chico, Jedward, Wagner and Rylan wasn't because they are the most talented musicians in the country?

X-Factor finds talent, but I wouldn't say that's their primary goal. I think they're looking for cash cows who can be marketed.

The OP is right, it is no longer a true talent finding contest, although, it is inevitable that talent will come out of the show because of the sheer number of entrants to the show.

$imon Cowell made me realise that XF is only concerned with headlines a few years back when he didn't send Jedward home, despite having the casting vote that would have seen them gone, this after berating them for being a joke act for weeks.

Cowell changed the rules & if the show churns out a joke act winner as a result, then so be it.

It's about time a joke act won the show.

Every year we have a joke act(s) that gets used & manipulated for column inches & controversy, yet they always jettison them right near the business end, once the need for headlines is no longer required.

I believe it is now the time to redress the balance & honour a joke act by making them the winner.

If you watched the 3 finalists attempting to sing Xmas carols outside 10 Downing Street this week you would come to the conclusion that they haven't found any talent this year.
