Panasonic sound system connection

I recently bought a Panasonic TV (TX-P42UT50B) and Blu-ray player (DMP-BDT120). These work fine together but I also have a Panasonic home theatre sound system (SC-PT150) which doesn't have digital input. Is it possible to connect my TV and blu-ray player so that the sound can be played via the sound system?

Advice would be much appreciated.

I've managed to connect using SCART but am not sure whether this will provide surround sound.

The SC-PT150 system also has an AUX audio input.

The direct answer to your original question is no you cant get surround sound to your original DVD - home theatre system .

The most obvious answer would be to take the BDT 120 back and swap it for a Pana 3d bluray home cinema system then its just a case of one HDMI lead from HDMI 2 on the TV to the sound system .

Your system cannot do true surround sound from anything other than the built in disk player. The very best you will get from any external equipment is Dolby ProLogic.

The SCART is wired to take sound from the TV. The SCART on the TV can send TV sound to the surround system but a quick read of the manual suggests it won't send audio from the HDMI the Blu-Ray is connected to. So you would need to run a lead from the Audio out sockets on the Blu-Ray to the Aux in on the surround system.

If you are lucky the Blu-Ray will encode the surround sound audio track into Dolby ProLogic that the surround system can decode. It won't be as good as the true surround you would get from a digital interconnect but can be pretty decent never the less.

Many thanks for the advice. Probably have to do without surround sound for a while until I can afford a new theatre (theater?) system.

You will get Dolby ProLogic which does produce a quite decent surround effect from stereo sources. Even more so if the source has been encoded with surround sound information in a ProLogic friendly format.

So all is not completely lost but not quite the same as true Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS.

If you are looking for a proper AV system then you could probably do a lot worse than something like this..

Not bad for £180. If Father Christmas is feeling generous then this is well worth considering
