Cowell blaming somebody other than himself for this year's series flopping? What a surprise
To be honest there is an element of truth in the article. The last two years, while Gary has been kind of head judge, the choice of acts has been dire. They have been picking singers with good voices but zero charisma who are more suited to being backing singers than stars. The show has become "The Backing Singer Factor" which nobody wants to watch.

Well I would say that unlike "The Sun" and so on, "The Times" is a real Newspaper with real journalists. So if they say they have a source, they probably do.

Do you really believe it's the judges who choose what acts go through to the finals

It is hardly Gary's fault though, the talent simply hasn't been there. A show full of charismatic people who can't sing would also be heavily criticized. I think the problem is that the show has become a tired format and is telling the same stories with the same type of people year after year. I think the show needs a complete overhaul before next years series.

Simon has always been jealous of Gary. Gary is the only reason I watch the show so I don't think it's his fault the X Factor has failed.

Gary doesn't make the choices, Cowell does together with other label executives. Cowell has always disliked Gary, he dislikes anyone who bruises his huge ego and Take That suceeded after Cowell rejected them and he did that because he didn't want Gary in the group. The OBE must have infuriated him.

Gary has an amazing ability to suck the life out of the show.

He and X Factor are not suited. He would be much more suited to The Voice which is less of a pantomime. The X Factor isn't to be taken seriously - that's why Louis remains on the panel.

I do honestly think that the BBC will try and get him for series 3 of The Voice. The format and aim seem to suit him a lot better, and I hate the fact that X Factor PRETENDS to be serious and it never is.

What about all the people who are saying they enjoyed his "banter" with Rylan this year? dont think he sucks the life out of the show at all i like Gary and TBH he is only the one reason i have watched along with Nicole this year, but i agree with you about him doing the voice it is a lot more credible show he would be good on that, the sooner he is away from this joke of a programme the better IMO.

I would say that is more down to Rylan than Gary - hence Rylan getting the morning TV entertainment host gig. Gary would not have had Rylan on the show at all as he completely missed what he could bring to it.

If the show was an hour long without all the pantomime and sob stories I definitely think more people would watch. More singing, less emphasis on the drama queen judges
Yes^
Far too much emphasis on sob stories and judges opinions both on and off stage.
I would like a return to the early X Factor formats or Pop Idol where VTs were on the build up and vocal coaching and styling for the performances.
Judging was relatively fair and constructive. Xtra Factor was unbiased back then, less tacky and a far more enjoyable show.
There have been some dreadful arrangements of covers but pure nastiness has really dominated this series making it all very unpleasant.
On Strictly Come Dancing I can actually watch and enjoy that show all the way through. Even Craig's comments are done in a relativley funny but constructive way.

I think a lot of the "banter" was set up TBH Gary and Rylan went along with it

Gary is one of the best judges we've had for years but has already said publically he won't do another series as hes touring with Take That next year.

I think since the departure of Simon, Cheryl and Dannii, the show has changed direction a bit and many viewers don't seem to like it. I think the former panel understood the audience better and didn't take themselves so seriously. The finalists chosen in the last 2 years failed to capture the imagination and support of the former audience in the same numbers, though some had a strong but not massive fan base. What made The Voice become unwatchable for me was when they kept pusing the ' credible' side- it became quite sanctimonious and condescending. They are televised talent shows!
Though i like both Gary and Tulisa, I find them annoying when they push the fact that the wrong acts are going through or being eliminated, as if people aren't seeing the great ' credible' artists that they are seeing. Voters are watching the same show as the judges, they just don't find the same acts as entertaining.

Surely you cannot be serious - he backs Christopher!
No he rejected him to be fair. It was the public that re-instated him.

wasn't there something about the bbc being desperate to get him to jump ship last year? but itv were desperate to keep him (despite cowell) so they offered him a raise to come back?

He shouldn't have even taken him to Judges houses. He simply wasn't good enough.

Gary, for me, has been the judge this year who has based his expectations on singing ability. He has to defend his own acts (or I expect he might not be quite so hot on Chris) but his criticism of Rylan has been spot on each time and I completely understand and approve of his walking off when Caroline went instead of Rylan because Louis wanted a novelty act to stay in the competition at the expense of a real singer.

The only judge I would even consider to keep in the show alongside Gary would be Nicole because she has an eccentric random element as a judge that I like to see, a bit of personality for a change. Louis has turned into a cartoon and Tulisa is far too overated and turned nasty this year. It's one thing to critique a song but to start on the personal attacks on Chris has destroyed her reputation and led to a downward spiral for her reputation and likeability. Her own singing performance has not dug her reputation out of the crapper either so what is she to do next? Tulisa's Christmas Presents alongside Noel Edmonds!

What rubbish! Gary is not blame at all! He's actually a good judge IMO. Why can't Tulisa be the one to go instead?
