Speaker Problem

Hello,
I have a Sony control centre amplifier, with two Jamo X550 Speakers connected to it.
The speakers have been working completely fine, but then suddenly, The bass went high, and the vocals are hardly heard, but all in all the main volume level went low. I have no idea what's wrong with it. I've checked the connections and they're all perfectly fine, so what could the problem be?
Thank You

What is the exact model number of the amplifier?

What sources are you using with it and does this problem affect all of them or just one? You say you have checked the connections but have you changed the input leads?

Does it have a headphone socket and if so have you tried a pair of headphones with it to see if they have the same problem?

There is a condition that can produce the effect you describe. If the earth becomes disconnected on the input or the speaker outputs then you are effectively getting left minus right. Anything appearing equally in the left and right channels can effectively disappear, such as the vocals.

You can get a similar effect, if the amp is working fine, by disconnecting the -ve speaker wires at the amp leaving the +ve only connected. Twist the -ve wires together and keep them away from the amp. That will give you a similar sort of sound to what you describe.

If the -ve speaker terminals have become disconnected from the amplifier internally but still connected to each other that could be a possible cause of the problem.

Hopefully it is a fault with the input connecting lead which is a lot easier and cheaper to fix.
