I did notice Nicole sounded much fainter than Jahmene did, I kind of thought the improvised sharing the mic thing worked anyway. Just one of those things imo.
I would've thought another mic should be on standby in case of these types of things happening anyway though, they are live.

If they were going to sabotage him, wouldn't they have messed with his microphone, not hers. Also, I think there's no way they wanted to do anything that might mean more votes for Chris, they were desperate to be rid of him above all. Would they really have risked giving him more votes?

I highly doubt it was on purpose to help James. If it was - it backfired as it was the most memorable moment of the series.

Why assume sabotaging Jahmene would give James more votes and not Chris? They wouldn't risk making anyone look bad except Chris.

They would have the voting figures for the previous week imo and would know who stood a chance to win. Doing what they can to negate the vote for Jahmene would lessen the floating vote he might gain from people who wouldnt otherwise vote.
All just theory and we will never know the truth but I really wouldnt put anything past the producers in regards to manipulation. They have had years to perfect it.
