That Mayor was an idiot.

David Coverdale lead singer of Whitesnake and Deep. Purple is from Saltburn.

So is Tony Mowbray.

Paul Rogers lived there and paid for the. Community centre

And an astronaut was born there too.

Bloody producers lies again.

/rant over!

B...b...b...but who in the world hasn't heard of the world-famous "an astronaut"?

Actually most football fans would know Tony Mowbray but I would imagine that James Arthur is a name that would be known to far more people than anyone listed in the OP.

I'm guessing it wasn't Neil Armstrong.

I'm 21 and I know who Tony Mowbray is. A few of the others ring a bell too.

Heard of Whitesnake and Deep Purple - of course - but never knew who the lead singer of those bands was.

Paul Rodgers of Free, Bad Company and latterly Queen.

Way way more famous than James Arthur will ever be and has sold more than Arthur can dream of

You say that like he has no respect for them. I'm sure he does and sure they're happy he comes from there too.

He's not in competition with Whitesnake, Bad Company or Queen.

The bands are far more famous than James Arthur. Paul Rodgers is a name that I would guess 90% of this thread had to Google to find out who he is.

And he is not "of Queen". He has has toured with them but has never been an official member.

Would've thought any football fan would know Mowbray, top flight player north and south of border and current Championship manager.

I think what everyone really wants to know is, who was lead singer when "Smoke on the Water" was recorded?

Perception of fame is relative not absolute. For a given group of people he can well be the most famous person they know from Saltburn, but not for you.

Mutliple perceptions of fame can co-exist...
