Mariah Carey: 'We Belong Together'
What do people think of this song? Is it a good ballad? Do people really think it's her "return to prominence" song?

It's an amazingly well put together song! There is no question it was her return to prominence, it was no.1 in the U.S for 14 weeks for goodness sake!

Funnily enough, despite being one of her biggest hits for a while, it's one Mariah song i'm really not fond of. For me, her last really good single would be Through the Rain.

Absolutely love it.
Was never a fan of Mariah up until that song. Always been my favourite Mariah song. Brilliance. |

I liked it at the time, to be honest though I think with songs after that she tried to stick to the same formula... I Stay In Love, Bye Bye, Angels Cry... time she tried somat new now. Love her though!

Bland, uninspiring and wearisome. I felt like falling asleep at the wheel whenever it came on the radio. I didn't think much of the name-checking of Bobby Womack or Babyface in it either. Compared to her ballads from the 90s, it was lacking but that is just my opinion. The fact that it sold well and put her back in the public consciousness shows that all those who worked on it knew what they were doing.
'It's Like That' wasn't too bad and I like 'Say Somethin' but she was trying to fit in and sound like a lot of those R&B starlets (or should that be 'tartlets') in that period. |

'We Belong Together' is one of my favourite songs of the last decade! An RnB ballad at its best....

One of her worst songs. Don't get me started on that video with her wedding dress flowing outside of the car

It is a decent track and it certainly returned her to 'prominence' although I don't think it is of the same quality of previous hits such as Fantasy, Dreamlover and Honey.

Absolutely superb song, I would agree when people say it was her return to form. In fact the album and the singles from it were her best in years, shame she seems to have disappeared of late. Although it was slightly laughable I quite liked the video too TBH

It's a fab song, however I feel there are better songs on The Emancipation of Mimi (Stay the Night, Fly Like a Bird).
However, nothing will compare to Daydream, of course. One of my favourite albums! |
