Viewing figures down six million in two years.

Advertising revenue down a further 40%.

Discuss.

There have been a lot of threads on this subject over the last few months.

You should care because there's justification for the ITV production team culling the show altogether!

It also underlines a decline in X Factor as a show and format. More and more viewers don't want to tune into to watch the almost non-existent talent on show, and the crude manipulation by both the judges and producers. Due to this, the advertisers aren't as interested.

Cowell is losing his unhealthy stranglehold over ITV on Saturday nights.Thank god.

Its been badly on the decline for a long time, the format is seriously dated and I think people overall are just tired of it. Cowell has maintained over the years that every single show has a shelf life and when the signs are showing clearly its time to pull it off the air. My guess would be honestly, that after next years 10th anniversary, it will be the last.

I love it when people say 'discuss' when they themselves have contributed sod all to any potential discussion.

Since late September/October last year there has been a fairly dramatic turnaround in the ratings.

They either need to revamp the show under the current brand or else launch something new.

For now, it still does very well. This series will outrate all series from 2004-2007 and nobody was talking about the show being axed then. The problem is that the rate of decline suggests that without the required surgery, next years show could fall even further.

I simply produced a link stating the main points of the article. Scroll down a post or two and you will find my opinion.

That Dog Can Dance - I'll be turning that off on Boxing Day

X Factor has been too focused on getting ready made stars and getting votes from da yoof
Lack of Simon, Cheryl and Dannii...maybe,... too much miserable chav Tulisa and washed up Louis Walsh
They need someone to take the helm and give the X Factor new life but as it's still Simon's show I dont expect much

Are you on about the Christmas show with Ashleigh and Pudsey?

I think any attempt from Simon to expand Syco will fall flat on its feet now. The man has had his time. Time to move on.

They need to announce the 10th series will be the last, have Simon, Cheryl, Nicole and Louis as judges, Kate Thornton and Dermot as the hosts, kill the joke acts and any sob stories, and the public vote!decides who goes every week

No, Simon is planning to start a completely new type of talent show, where the quest will be to find the next genius. Top end inventers, math genuis, computer genuis etc. Will.I.am has already signed in on the deal apparently, Will.i.am heavily supports technology and advancement and runs a STEM program

Like any production company they'll be developing multiple shows at once, probably in Los Angeles as well as London. It tends to take a lot of big swings before you stumble upon a big hit. That Syco have two global franchises at the moment is quite remarkable. The future might be lots of smaller shows rather than two big ones, perhaps.

In the new year they're doing a cookery show for ITV. I think the dog show is just a Christmas special (although I guess they might make more of it if it does well).

Rumors of the tech show have been around for a good while, when Will.i.am went back to the states as guest mentor with britney the news hit the press that he had signed on with Cowell

Details however are being kept very hush hush

I think the decline has less to do with the format being dated and far more to do with the contestants in 2011 & 2012 being less likeable/talented so that fewer people have been hooked into wanting to watch and vote, because they don't really care who wins. SCD has had the same format for a number of years and its ratings are going up.

I see that point of view as well, the UK by comparison to a lot of other countries is relatively small and the talent pool was going to eventually dry up, i just know that as a viewer i have found the whole format dated and boring for a good few years now. Im not a fan of cowell and never have been, but he watches his own shows and has often said, when he gets bored he knows its over. When he launched in the states and Im quoting him from an interview, he was getting bored here. When he left AI he said the same, its becoming boring and when it gets boring its a sign that any show has reached its best

Think the next series will be the last, the show nosedive ratings and ad revenue wise is unsustainable.

Unlikely. It remains one of the biggest shows on television, even with the 'nosedive' in ratings. There's nothing in the pipeline that ITV could potentially replace it with that would generate similar numbers and demos. It's still a lucrative show.

Cheryl as the judge when she's suing XF for £1.5 million after being sacked from XF USA?
