just new to this, probably easy to solve, please help.

I've just spent over £1000 on a Toshiba 36" tv/dvd package. The problem that I have is that the picture quality seems to be poor, can I boost the signal from my NTL digi box so as the tv will give a sharper picture ?

I am using scart connections between the tv,digi box,vcr and component leads between the tv and dvd.

What you are seeing is not the unusual.
Modern large screen televisions accentuate the faults in mpegII digital picture sources mainly down to the size of the screen and the extra digital processing/scanning that is common on those TV's. Dsat, Cable and DTT platforms all suffer from this to various extents on a channel to channel basis and you will find that a DVD will look much better even using the same cables.

If the NTL (is it a digital one?) is working fine, and you have it linked to the tv via scart, then thats as good as it gets (unless there is a fault with the tv).

Just make sure both scart plugs are plugged "all the way in".

Just a thought - do have another tv in the house (with a scart socket) that you could try out.

I think this persons problem is an occurance known as 'The Digital TV Era'

Welcome to the present... I mean future.

However, I suspect that Jarrak has pinpointed this problem (as usual! )

It might be worth lowering the contrast level to 50% (no doubt it's factory set at 99%) , also try changing any advanced picture setttings such as noise reduction, anti flicker or similar sounding 'enhancements' (see user manual)
