Foxsat HDR problems with HDD (removed and replaced)
I replaced the HDD in my Foxsat with a 1TB drive and it's now working perfectly. The plan though was to put the original drive in a caddy and watch what's on it via this.
However, try as I might, I cannot get the Foxsat to recognise the caddy. I've tried using a SATA to USB adaptor as well, to no avail. I've also tried plugging both into my PC with no result. Is it possible the HDD is fried and what might I have done to cause that? ![]() So, two questions - should te Foxsat reconise the caddy even with no drive in it? I want to establish that it is the drive that's the problem and not the caddy. Secondly, if it is the drive, would it nevertheless be possible to extract the contents and put them on a new drive/stick, whatever? My partner will kill me otherwise - the original drive was full with mostly stuff she would have watched. ![]() I think you can pay someone to do this kind of thing but there's a (low!) limit to what I'd be prepared to pay. Alternatively, is this something I could do myself, and if so, how would I go about doing it, since I can't seem to access the drive even using a USB to SATA cable hooked up to my PC. Help!!

You need a free program called Ext2fsd to access it from the pc as it's formatted for Linux. Worked fine for me.

Should be no problem with the drive in a caddy connected by usb. Works fine with my Foxsat. Never tried with caddy powered without a drive in it though. I would be inclined to suspect the caddy is faulty. Connecting it to a PC with EXT2FSD installed should also work fine as posted above. If you install the Custom Firmware you can also transfer the contents directly once you can read the drive.

Are you powering the drive separately?

Same as Graham, I have an outboard USB caddy with a drive taken from an old Sky box; reformatted the drive with a PC using GPARTED (free download) to EXT3, and the HDR saw it immediately I plugged it in. Works great with the custom firmware.
Not swapped out internal though since CF installed. |

Two 1TB drives, internal and external both externally mounted in caddies, internal one connected by esata cable, both formatted by the foxsat. Drives are interchangeable, original 320GB also can be slotted in. Schedule is lost though on drive swap.
Not swapped out internal though since CF installed. |
