Android satnav

My dad is thinking about upgrading his mobile. He would WANT a good satnav with downloaded maps (no downloading along the trip, can google maps do that?) not too expensive.
(I have a iPhone so am unsure of what an android can do out of the box, and what apps can be downloaded). I am thinking something like the galaxy ace would be good, at a good price.

Any input greatfull received

The built in Google Nav lets you download an area of the map for offline access, rather than say download all of the UK. I prefer it to NavFree on iphone which is also available on android.

You can download maps with google maps. How you will not be able to use POI or live traffic without data connection. Good news is that both POI and live traffic take up very little data, only a few kb at a time.

Also downloading maps as you go does not take up much data either, only a few mb per area and once downloaded its cached. You can map your journey when on wifi and then just data on the road for POI and traffic.

Navfree gets my vote too. Free to download, free maps. At least try it before buying something else, you have nothing to lose.

NavFree all the way. I'm a taxi driver and have tried loads of Satnavs on my Note 2, and NavFree became my one of choice.

Tip: When using NavFree, when you do the address search, use the Google button within it. You get better results that way

I feel a bit bad now. I didn't know there were more search feaures o. android. I'm used to it on iPhone so when I got my android I tried Google nav and found it. better than navfree on iPhone.

I shall try navfree my shelf now on android before recommending against it.

Another vote for NavFree. Used it in the USA earlier this year and never put me a foot wrong. Also used in it Dublin and Spain and no issues what so ever.
