Gary putting in minimal effort in his duet with Christopher?

he sat at the piano, hardly any interaction to give chris a chance at a wow moment

very boring performance

did this affect some more votes coming in for chris

Well Nicole learnt two new songs.

Gary went out and did his usual performance.

It is more difficult when it's two blokes though

Maybe Christopher's timing had something to do with it when they sang together. It was awful he was so out of time. I remember Gary mentioned it on a VT a while back that is one area that he improved a lot...going by that performance there is still a LOT of work to do. It was the one thing that I will remember from that performance.

The song choice confused me. Gary raved about Ella singing it better than he even could, so why choose it to set Christopher up for a fall? The comparrison was obviously going to be made. Not a Christopher supporter btw, it just genuinely puzzled me.

This was done in collusion with, or under orders from, the producers. No interaction between the two and lots of long distance camera shots.

Christopher's timing and bellowing each song karaoke style, not to mention the odd bum note proves he is not yet at a professional standard.

Anyway, he's history now. Move on and look forward to tonight's final.

I thought Gary sounded great. The pair were hardly likely to do a dance routine together as Gary's dance routines from Take That days are over.

I honestly thought the song sounded very good, and that both Gary and Chris sang really well, and I also really liked all the background staging. However, the lack of interaction was a bit off-putting and I found it distinctly strange that they didn't show Gary and Chris shake hands or hug or whatever at the end of the performance, even though it was clear they did, as you could make them out moving towards each other from the distance camera shot before they switched away altogether.

Did anyone notice how Gary was playing the piano during the chorus? It didn't seem like he was really playing it 'live' at all.

The duet sounded good, it was the first performance compared to the other 2 finalists that was rubbish and let him down.

He would've had more fun duetting with Rylan. Hard to raise enthusiasm for Maloney.

I thought Gary and Chris's duet was so boring.

Was Gary's piano playing real or George-Shelley-guitar-playing-real?

And yet he managed a dance routine with James Corden three days earlier. You Tube

I thought Gary was outsinging Chris. He just sang his parts and gave Chris the parts the other members sing.

Gary sang the entire song, I think 'covers up for chris's woeful attempt' would be more accurate than 'put minimal effort in' .

First of all, no one can sing Gary's songs better than him. I don't care what he said about Ella singing RTW better than him. He was being way too nice to her. Watch him perform that song at the olympics and you'll know.

I thought he tried his best not to outshine Maloney last night. But Gazza is so good, he still ended up outshining him. I wish he had sung it without Maloney.

As for his piano playing, he was playing it for real. That's how he plays it on his solo shows. He's been playing piano since he was 9, I just think he's super comfortable on it so it looks effortless. You can watch it here...

i kind of always felt sorry for Gary, he made it clear he loved James, and was kind of landed with Chris and had a hard run ahead of him, i loved the song but sounded just like Gary singing, wonder why people hated Chris so much? i know he was a bit sickly but he didnt kill anyone!

I would have loved to have read the reaction on these forums had Gary just done exactly the same performance as he did with James Corden.

Anyway, he was behind the piano for the Marcus duet last year so as usual, the people crying over conspiracies don't really have a point . Yes, there was a lack of interaction but given that Gary couldn't just walk away from the piano to hang out with Chris at the other end of the stage, it isn't really his fault is it?

If they had then I would have voted for him!

There is no point in having an overs category. Simon clearly doesn't rate people closer to his age.

I'd say it goes beyond that to Laura White piano playing real. Anyone remember when she stood up in the middle of her performance and it carried on playing?
