If you still think The X-Factor is about the best vocals and you hate James Arthur...

... then you are clutching at straws. He managed to avoid more bum notes than the "stronger singers" and managed to be more relevant. BOOM!

To the industry, silly. Many artists have praised him while the only ones praising the other two are churches and cruise ships, respectively.

When her mic was down and they couldnt hear each other? When they sorted it out he was great, anybody would have been thrown by somebody snatching the mic out of their hand.

James has one of the worst voices imo. I only watched his performance with Nicole and he sounded terrible whereas she sounded great.

James is not the best singer in the comp this year......he's more versatile with the songs he is given to sing!!!

The fact that Kelly Clarkson came out so much worse than Rita Ora in this shows that singing is far more than just hitting notes. Unless the researcher fell asleep listening to the later.

What is the basis then? More vocal runs? Less character?

That is the point, which is why Christopher is horrible, even when he hits the notes.

Of course not, but to suggest that Jahmene and Chris are better is appalling. There was a study like this in Week 4 and those two topped the "most bum notes" chart.

BOOM indeed

I don't think he's that bad, he's just not that good.

I certainly don't "hate" him.

Everyone, including the professional acts, was dreadful last night, it was the accoustics of the place. It wasn't just the singing, the dancing was cringe making, there were errors all over the place in production and delivery, it was like watching something from the Soviet Union.

Jahmene did sing out of tune but James cannot sing at all. He yowls. I recorded the programme and fast forwarded through most of it because everyone was so utterly crap. I cannot watch or listen to James at all and I know many other people feel the same way, I just don't get it.

Although I can force myself to listen, I hate his singing voice. The judges tell him he's original. Indeed but that's only because other singers don't mumble and groan their way through songs! It's like having someone who deliberately sings out of tune being told that they're original for doing so.

Except with the latter even the cruise ships aren't completely with them (asphyxiation anyone?).

Anyways James is solid, relevant and original. People don't seem to get talent these days. They're either misguided in Maloney's case or simple depressed hence the loud booming club music.

The Voice is supposed to be about "having the best vocals"
The X Factor is supposed to be about having that certain quality that makes you a star.

It's always been that - said from day one.

Yes, and James has the X Factor... and apparently, the voice as well (at least compared to the other two).

When will people wake up and realise it is NEVER who is the BEST singer. It is who we LIKE the most.
Some of my fave singers would never be classed as GOOD singers. I just happen to love their voices. Give me Morrissey, Shane McGowan and Marc Almond over Pavarotti any day.

My dad once told me (about 1999/2000) that Pavarotti died when his lungs exploded while singing and I fell for it. Mind you I was a kid back then and Pavarotti was still alive.

In your opinion. Personally I enjoyed Christopher's singing and obviously so did a lot of other people going by the votes.
I think that James will be really successful once he has completely left the X Factor syco machine after his year is up.
James is an aquired taste too and I can see him doing well in the future but just not in the pop chart genre.

I dont hate anyone. Especially people on tv that I have no way of really knowing.
But I think I'm getting too old for the x factor.
It's all about vocals for me - G4, Rhydian, Joe Mcelderry, Jahmene....I love the tone of their voices....
James never did it for me - but the very best of luck to him.
I agree with the poster who said the x factor is all about "who people like"...not necessarily about who is the best vocalist.
