Sharing google calendar

Hi everyone, would appreciate your thoughts. I have a Galaxy S2 and my wife uses an iphone. We need to synchronise our calendars.

I currently use a Google Calendar which I synchronise my phone with (and also an Outlook calendar).

I wonder if the simplest method is just to share access to my Google calendar with my wife which I assume would mean she gets my appointments, and I get hers?

However I wonder if it is neater to set her up with her own Google calendar and she syncs with that from her phone and then we share each others?

Would appreciate thoughts on whether that just overcomplicates matters and means another step in the synchronisation.

Lastly, I'm guessing that I don't want any alerts/reminders from her Google calendar sounding on my phone, and I know for certain she won't want all mine, so is there a way (or setting) to just have the appointments appear in each others diaries but not any of the reminders/alerts from the other person?

Many thanks

Personally I would go for the two calendar option, and share each other's calendars via the "Other Calendars" option on the Google Calendar web site. At the very least, this will give you two different colours for the pair of you to be able to distinguish between your and her appointments, but the benefits reach beyond that too.

I don't know if things have changed but when I did this before, I believe the default is for reminders to be off on Other Calendars, regardless if the calendar itself has a reminder set for that event. You can manually copy events across and add your own reminders if you want one for whatever reason, but by default you would not get them and nor would she for yours.

When my wife and I both had iPhones we had a shared Google calendar. It was a new Google cal account we only use for the shared calender. I now have android, and we still share between android and ios.

Both os' can have multiple Google calendars.
